[edit] Speculative Non-Fiction

Thoughts and research that I can't find a good place to store on the wiki. (Lurkers: please let me know if you where they belong or feel to move.)

[edit] Random Placements

Randomly placed items appear somewhat predictably. For example, ...

  • Hidden Stashes in PRE spawn in very similar spots.
  • Irises in PRE (which actually drop rather than spawn) can be found reliably in certain areas.
  • Chests in all campaigns spawn following a similar pattern.

Nearly everyone who farms monsters can see similar patterns with mob spawns; these are more noticeable b/c (a) we're all geared towards killing things and (b) the monsters tend to spawn in semi-logical locations (near choke points or game-related loci, such as temples, portals, etc.). The interactives/collectibles have, to-date, appeared more haphazardly.

[edit] Iris Drops in Lakeside County

A colleague of mine tracked the Iris drops in Lakeside County (in honor of Nick Sandford's Flowers in Her Hair day).

  • You can get 5 flowers per visit to lakeside, 1 in each of 5 drop zones, which are close to
    • Northlands Gate; Devourer Egg Cave, Prize Winning Hogs; Wurm Farm Hill; Ascalon River. (img pending permission of buddy)
  • Each time you rezone, the drop zones are seeded with an Iris that will drop a random distance from a central focus.

[edit] Speculation

We predict that the game uses the same functions to place stashes, chests, and similar such items. So, if one wants to farm chests (for various titles), it is worth spending the time to (a) choose a location to farm and (b) map out the drop locations on successive farming instances. This will narrow down the location of the drop zone focus point, which will allow you to save oodles of time (more than making up for the effort spent mapping).
