[edit] About meMeet the ex Guild Leader of the now disbanded FOMJ. My GW name is Alice of the Twist. Most often I am referred to as "AOTT" or "Alice." I can be found online. When you're playing online, you may see me playing any one of my characters, which are all prefixed by "AOTT" with the exception of my primary character, Alice of the Twist. I use all of my characters in PvE and PvP. So much for my Survivor title. If I am unable to use a PvE character in PvP, I use AOTT Blue to fill in. That's what PvP characters are for. I began playing around 7/5/05 and made my first Guild, Followers Of Master Jack [FOMJ] on 7/15/05. A lot of people came through my Guild. My guild has split off several seed guilds, which helped form the [FOMJ] Alliance. These guilds have been outstandingly successful for the most part. Recently I disbanded FOMJ for personal reasons, and I gave ownership of the Alliance over to my largest seed ally, [EMHW]. [EMHW] disbanded and the Alliance reformed under [SNOB] (another [FOMJ] seed.) ([EMHW] reconstituted itself and joined the [SNOB] Alliance as an allied Guild.) I began the [FOMJ] Alliance about 3 days after the release of Guild Wars: Factions as a way to expand the guild into a larger entity. Since then, several guilds have come and gone, and some have stayed. As the leader of the [FOMJ] Alliance, I quickly saw that there would be fanatics who would not rest until cities fell under their control; because of this, I did not ask guilds in the Alliance to maintain obsessively large faction counts; rather I let the guilds competitively amass faction for the sole reason of keeping enough faction to avoid scaring off recruits. Since I have now disbanded FOMJ, I no longer control the Alliance. Since then, the Alliance has been under the control of [SNOB] and I have left entirely. Alice of the Twist is now a resident of [derp]. Alice Of The Twist may be more difficult to contact than usual because of events in their personal life. [edit] Ventrilo and Team SpeakBoys and girls and that tiny portion of the population that hasn't quite decided yet: You need Ventrilo AND Teamspeak. Not because it is necessarily necessary for playing GW; no, you can get along without it. The reason you need both is that it's simply faster to SAY something than it is to type it. Also, you can talk and fight at the same time. BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE FREE TO USE THE CLIENT; ONLY HOSTING A SERVER CAN COST YOU MONEY. FREE SERVER VERSIONS ARE AVAILIABLE. (However the free Ventrilo server is extremely limited; it can only host 8 people at a time. The free Teamspeak server lets you host however many you want.) The difference between the two is only a matter of QUALITY, not FUNCTIONALITY. Ventrilo is the preferred application of people in higher-level areas and PvP due to it's higher quality and customizability. These people are incredible bigots and won't let you JOIN their group if you don't have the program. Sometimes you have to have a microphone, as is the case of PvP and DoA. TeamSpeak is the program of choice for Guilds. You can host MORE PEOPLE on a free teamspeak server than on a free ventrilo server. Because of the lack of customization in TeamSpeak, it is not preferred for more advanced gameplay simply because you may have to spend some time screwing around with your system just so someone on the other end can hear you; rather in Ventrilo the other guy can just amplify your piteously weak voice manually. [edit] Luxons Vs. KurzicksIt just doesn't matter anymore, people. [edit] PvP and PvEThe Domain of Anguish has left me a bitter and angry person. But I have my purple glowing staves, so I'm ok. Sort of. A lesson is learned, but the damage is irreversible.-David Hellman What makes players GOOD players is not, in fact, their skillbars. It is their ability to make plans and having the balls of steel/rock hard mahogany ovaries carry them out. A skillbar will only influence a player's ability to inflict, reduce, and reverse damage. It takes a human mind to organize, process, and carry out the chain of events leading up to victory or death. When and where you do something is more important than simply pushing the button. A level playing field refers only to skillbars. How they are used results in the superiority of the player. [edit] Character ClassesBelow you will find my personal opinions on each character class. In no particular order. [edit] NecromancerI love Necromancers. Everyone should have one. Damage, self-sustaining, party support, Necromancers do it ALL. Not to mention the recent fren-frenzy. If you don't have a necromancer you should. Oh yes. I know what I'm talking about. Do you? Necromancers can do many, many things at once. There is a reason that the most popular vanquishing build is three necromancer heroes. Players who use necromancers vary widely in their skill selections and techniques. This is because a necromancer can make ANYTHING good. The melee-mancer, the N/W, N/D, or N/A, is a viable and scary play style. The N/Rt can swing so many ways it makes the head spin. N/Mo's are equivalent to gods. Necromancers using only Necromancer skills are common and amazing. Even N/P's work, although I would consider such a combination of the best and worst an abomination. [edit] RangerRanges are competitors to the Necromancer for battleground supremacy. Expertise makes their energy management rival that of Soul Reaping and the skills associated with Expertise makes it all the more worth investing in. Oh, and PETS! Aww... they have pets... cute... [edit] MonkMonks are ridiculously useful. Everyone should have one. Monks are welcome in every area of the game, therefore you can almost ALWAYS get a party. My monk is overused, abused, and not fully appreciated for her services. She is crying. Can you see her crying? Leave her alone. Stop it. [edit] WarriorWarriors are the original stereotypical hack and slash class. They're useful for farming, tanking, and dishing out the pain. Everyone should have one. Definitely. Newbie complaining about not having any money? Make a warrior! [edit] ElementalistElementalists are excellent for damage dealing. Not so much for party support, but it can be done if you combine it with a monk secondary. The staple fireball-tosser, if you will. And then of course there's the terra tank. Can't forget those... I don't recommend everyone have one. [edit] MesmerMesmers are arguably the most powerful or the weakest character class. Most powerful for their huge damage potential and incredible disruptive ability, weakest because of the skill required to execute such a thing properly. I have a mesmer and I love it. NOT everyone should have one because not everyone can play one. [edit] RitualistRitualists are ok. They are versatile enough to be used in just about every location. But they definately leave something to be desired. "Mediocre" and "weird" are key words here. [edit] AssassinAssassins are like mesmers. They have to be played very carefully. If you're good, you're the deadliest thing on the battlefield (maybe) if you're bad, well... you die quick. Assassin is to warrior as mesmer is to elementalist. Except Assassins die more often than mesmers. [edit] DervishDervishes are great. If you don't want a warrior you should probably try a dervish. A dervish can do most of the same things a Warrior can, but with less disruption and more overwhelming force. There are only a few things I don't like about Dervishes. I don't like the lower AL, and I don't like the lack of interrupts. They're great for enchantment removal (I believe they are one of the few classes that can remove a Shadow Form or a Spell Breaker) and they can inflict a LOT of conditions very quickly. They can act a lot like Elementalists with enchantment damage spikes (Mystic Sandstorm is ridiculous.) It's the love-child of a Warrior and an Elementalist. [edit] ParagonDo not exist. Do not play them, do not play WITH them. They are inferior to all other classes. Their shouts/chants/echoes have the advantage of not being removable, much like the Ritualist's Weapon spells and Item spells. Their effects, however, are feeble compared to standard enchantments. Their spear attacks deal an inferior amount of damage when compared to anything other than a caster staff. The range of their spears is so short that they might as well be a melee class. The only good thing about Paragons is their AL, which is comparable to that of a Warrior. Their party support abilities do not meet par for elite missions or higher level areas; a paragon will get you through a campaign only by the grace of the superior intelligence of the player vs. the AI. In PvP, paragons are used to OUT WAIT the opponent; if two paragon teams meet, the match goes on agonizingly long until the timer runs out. They're SLOW. They can absorb damage like there's no tomorrow but they can't dish out enough to make it worth it. Some people would argue otherwise. They are wrong. I say a competent Warrior beats a competent paragon any day.
[edit] About [FOMJ][FOMJ] was an accident. I never intended the guild to flourish the way it did; I had expected other guilds to be so well-developed and well-known that my little stake in the battle isles would be ignored by all but the most newbie players. Well, FOMJ grew faster than I could have imagined, and it floated between 70-90 players at any given time with an average of about 15-20 officers by the end of its life. When Factions came out, and I heard about Alliances and the rumored ability to take control of cities, I had originally expected to be fighting for control of a city constantly in a siege-like 'round the clock stuggle for supremacy. I was actually fairly confident in my Guild's ability to hold such a siege, but alas; city ownership turned out to be a matter of how many faction points an Alliance could muster. Once Factions hit its peak, it dawned upon me that the only way to take control of even a minor outpost would be impossible to accomplish without sacrificing all other aspects of the game. So, I gave up the dream of owning Cavalon (which at present requites 24 million faction points to control, 1/7/07) and settled for having far more members in my guild and alliance than any of those alliances. Thanks to my impressive officer core and my own efforts, I'd say we did a pretty spiffy job. FOMJ was disbanded on 1/15/07. The members were given to Allies within the [FOMJ] Alliance. The [FOMJ] Alliance guilds reformed under [EMHW]. I joined [TRA], which was kicked from the [EMHW] Alliance for low activity. [TRA] has since been disbanded. AOTT is currently a member of [derp]. [edit] Hard DataAOTT is the original Guild Leader of the now disbanded guild, Followers of Master Jack [FOMJ]. She has been playing for 2 years and uses Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. |

[edit] CharactersYeah, you hate at least one of these ladies; but they're all the same person. |
[edit] Alice of the TwistA primary PvE Necromancer, has switched between several secondary classes including Elementalist, Monk, and Mesmer, and recently Ritualist. {N/E/Mo/Me/Rt} Thus her skillset is very diverse. A quick thought on Necromancers:
About the name...
Necromancers FTW
Perhaps it has not occurred to you that it is, in fact, possible to do all of those things at once.-AOTT

[edit] AOTT HippieA primary PvE Ranger, has switched between being a Mesmer secondary and a Necromancer secondary. At one point she was a Monk secondary, but it only lasted a day. Currently a R/N. (Not playing as a toucher for those of you who are immediately drawing that assumption. Something far, far nastier.) My thoughts on Rangers:
I remember a time when my ranger was actually ASKED for. What have I been replaced with? URSAN BLESSING. /ragequit-AOTT |
[edit] AOTT AlmightyA primary PvE Monk. Totally awesome.
Look at her. Look in her EYES. This poor girl has been ABUSED. Leave her ALONE. Stop asking her to do things! She needs to be cared for, she needs some TIME. Look, tattoos to cover the scars!-AOTT |
[edit] AOTT Pandora PanicA primary PvE Warrior.
I think I might be a lesbian. It's the whole "butch" thing. -AOTT |
[edit] AOTT ArmageddonA primary Assassin.
I'm WORKING ON IT, ok!?-AOTT

Who even plays Dervishes anymore? If they had 80 AL, life would be SWEET. -AOTT If dervishes had an inherent extension on the duration of enchantments through their Mysticism attribute, they would be incredible.-Mitch Mizerie |
[edit] AOTT Furious StormPrimary Elementalist
Gee, I can make loads of money terra tanking...-AOTT |
[edit] AOTT BlueA PvP Character. She can be anything.
