Nope, you only need to complete "Befriending the Luxons" to enter Gyala Hatchery. You can access Maishang Hills as soon as you're able to explore the rest of the northern Jade Sea. Mujaki 02:00, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

230 foes killed but had 'Recruits' and 'kurzicks' quests active. Beware because while the recruits are alive you can't get the vanquishing done (some bug).--disarm 14:08, 13 May 2007 (CDT)

181 foes without those quests active. Also depends on the amount of Oni popups you get.

201 foes. We walked around quite a bit, though, and probably triggered most or all of the Oni. Mirutsa 12:54, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

Ok, please stop bringing down the total for Vanquishing. I have run this over 40 times now in HM and the high is 278 in HM.

Noticed an odd thing with the shrine just outside Eredon. It had Balthazar and Dwayna on it... has it always been like that? RabidCoqui 03:07, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I just noticed it a week ago myself, but I guess it's just because I hadn't been paying attention to the shrines until I started vanquishing, as it was noted on the official wiki in January. 67.232.204.135 23:14, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Locked chests missing?

I was vanquishing Maishang Hills with my sis when we noticed the lack of locked chests. Eventually we found one. After the vanquish we ran around the map looking for new chests spawn (or some we'd missed). Anyway we found no more. So only one chest in hard mode? --disarm 20:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, I did find one in this little zone just south from Bai Paasu Reach, without any pop-ups or near any monsters. Then I took "In the Army" quest after I finished vanquishing, and it spawned me another four chests through the whole zone, along with dozens of hidden kurzicks and some enemy in Bai Paasu's Reach portal that quickly dissappeared after taking the quest. I should note also that I took the Scouting quest prior finishing the vq and it didn't spawned me any chest.
