A pyromancer is an Elementalist who is dedicated to the element of Fire. These characters are valued for their ability to deal significant damage to multiple opponents at the same time or forcing grouped opponents to scatter by dealing such damage. In PvP, this can be useful in Hero's Ascent where enemies are very balled up due to small maps and more than just one other enemy team. In GvG they force people out of wards to allow melee to hit enemies easier.
