Overview

PvP characters (PvP only characters) are used for PvP only, opposed to roleplaying characters which can do both PvE and PvP. When creating a character, the player can choose whether to create a roleplaying character or a create a PvP character. Note that PvP characters are limited to the PvP Areas (Battle Isles, Alliance Battle ground, Competitive Missions) and Guild Halls. They cannot leave these areas and so cannot be used in PvE.

Items & Skills

PvP characters have a wide variety of armor and weapons to choose from, all bearing the maximum possible statistics. However, this does not include skills, runes, and weapon upgrades; these can only be used after being unlocked. (An exception to this is when a PvP character template is being used, allowing the use of skills that are not unlocked.)

PvP characters can use PvE items handed to them, but other characters cannot use PvP character items, since they are customized.

PvP Character Templates

Guild Wars offers 13 premade character builds. These builds have been successfully utilized by either the developers or top rated guilds in the past. While they might be a bit outdated, they still offer the new player an excellent way to start doing PvP without worrying about builds or unlocking skills.

Pets

Primary and secondary rangers can have a pet, provided they have Charm Animal on their skill bar. The pet is always a level 20 elder wolf. PvP chars can never have a different animal or pet evolution.

Notes

Pros:

  • Can use any unlocked elite skill with related profession
  • Can use any unlocked runes and use "considered" rare weapon
  • Can be deleted everytime the character is not up-to-date

Cons:

  • Cannot change armor
  • Cannot hold titles (except account based titles, and if you take a character to Fort Aspenwood or Jade Quarry they will gain canthan cartography points (this appears to be a bug).
  • Cannot change pet
