Prophecies |
Orr was an ancient kingdom which once ruled over a portion of Tyria on a peninsula to the South of Ascalon and to the west of the Crystal Desert. Orr was home to the city of the gods, Arah. This city was once inhabited by the gods Balthazar, Dwayna and Melandru while they shaped Tyria.
History
Edit
After the Searing the Charr forces marched south to Orr and quickly overwhelmed its armies. We are told that the empire was destroyed when the king's personal advisor, Vizier Khilbron, used powerful magic to defeat the invading Charr forces, magic that caused a devastating explosion which killed the attacking Charr, but also destroyed the city of Arah, and most of the surrounding peninsula. This event is referred to as The Cataclysm.
The Cataclysm caused most of Orr to sink to the bottom of the Bay of Sirens (which - after this event - was renamed Sea of Sorrows). The parts that are above sea level are charred and barren, and haunted by the undead.
Much of this story might have been relayed by Vizier Khilbron himself, one of the few survivors of the disaster, and might not be an accurate account.
Territory
Edit
In addition to the Orrian Peninsula, at the time of the Second Great Corsair War, Orrian territory extended to the Tarnished Coast, and included the caverns now known as the Shards of Orr, and at some point in the past, Orrian territory extended into North Kryta Province

A Place of Power
Edit
Orr seems to have been a kingdom blessed with great magical aptitude. They were the home of the famed Scepter of Orr which features prominently in Prophecies storyline. In addition, scholars of Tyria, Cantha and Elona attribute the knowledge of how to craft and use Signets of Capture to Orrian texts.
Notes
Edit
- Many of the Orrian forces appear now as Undead throughout Kryta.
- Many Orrian spirits, tainted by Abaddon during the Cataclysm, now reside in the Realm of Torment.
Trivia
Edit
- Many of the names of Undead bosses in Kryta (who were former Orrian leaders) as well as the title of Vizier Khilbron are Arabic.
- Orr means "light" in Hebrew
- In Gate of Torment there is a NPC called Vialee who tells his side of the story--how he got trapped in the Realm of Torment after The Cataclysm.
