Darn, that's creative! I wish I had thought of that first d-: -User:PanSola (talk to the Follower of Lyssa) 19:46, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. At the time, Oasis was still broken, so we had no other way to reach users who are on it (and I think we still don't, for users who don't log in). --◄mendel► 22:03, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

Community History[]

Proposing to add Project:Community History to the main navigation, around community portal and community talk. This way, anyone interested in re-growing a guild wars community on wikia can find out about the wiki's past. It's also a transparent while hopefully legit way to have an easily findable beacon that tells people where the GuildWiki community has gone to (once Curse is done setting up). -User:PanSola (talk to the Follower of Lyssa) 20:25, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

No need to re-grow it, we're not abandoning it. Felix Omni Signature 21:39, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, I was under the impression that, at least from the perspective of the people whose name is signed here, "GuildWiki" will be moving to be hosted by Curse. Wikia will still have the existing contents here, but the community would be gone. Even if the original community doesn't abandon the Guild Wars wiki on Wikia, the community wouldn't really *be* here (on Wikia) anymore. Please help me improve my understanding of the situation. -User:PanSola (talk to the Follower of Lyssa) 22:09, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
We're planning to repurpose GuildWars Wikia to utilize the tools available through Oasis, while the role of documenting the game in an encyclopedic style will remain central to GuildWiki at Curse.com. While the majority of our regulars here are no longer willing to contribute to Wikia, a significant portion of users and administrators (including mendel and myself) are committed to finding a new purpose for GW@W. Pending community approval after the move, of course; we'll stay committed to determine this wiki's direction by community consensus, but it seems to make sense to take advantage of Wikia options we haven't been able to before and develop this wiki more strongly than we have previously been able to, for fear of alienating our user base; however, Wikia have shown with their bold skin change that they'd support us in this all the way. --◄mendel► 22:31, November 3, 2010 (UTC) (P.S. Wasn't this your idea initially, PanSola?)
Very good point/idea. And if it was my idea initially (was it from the transition-to-Monaco era?), I have forgotten so much about it I'm not even sure it rings any bells d-: Can you link me to it? q-: -User:PanSola (talk to the Follower of Lyssa) 23:02, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Reviewing your recent contribs, I realize I was mistaken; it was TEF'S idea, I believe. The main thing is that it wasn't mine. :-P --◄mendel► 23:29, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Writing down the history is a good idea; I suggest merging the history article with Project:About, which I'm linking to the GuildWars Wikia entry, since a dual entry to the mainpage (1st is via the wordmark) serves no purpose (it had to link somewhere when I made that nav, and I wasn't creative enough to find a better use). --◄mendel► 22:03, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
It could presumably also be made a FAQ, "Where have all the admins gone? Where has the build section gone?" and the history would answer that they split off to gww:, pvxwiki, and eventually, curse.com. --◄mendel► 22:09, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

ShowDatacenter[]

Is there anything we can link it to besides the main page? Like some page that actually tells people what they can do with that information? -User:PanSola (talk to the Follower of Lyssa) 21:48, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

They can't do anything with it except report what it says when they're submitting a bug report. It's in the nav more or less because I wanted it in an easily accessible place, and I think we don't have "report a wiki bug" any more. If we revive that link, the data center could be shown at the top of that page - it might help in tracking down some css glitches, but other than that, it's probably not really good for much except to showcase that Wikia is everywhere. ;-P --◄mendel► 23:06, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
