Mantid Hatchling

A Mantid Hatchling, a typical Mantid

Mantises are large insects that are found in different areas of Cantha and the Charr Homelands. They have experienced a population explosion in Kaineng City and on Shing Jea island that seems connected to the outbreak of the affliction. They loosely resemble a real-life Praying Mantis (combined with elements of ants, lobsters, and cockroaches) but with varying proportions to their limbs, heads, and torsos.

Note: In Cantha, low level Mantises (up to level 20) are labeled "Mantid", high level Mantises are labeled "Mantis". This is the same species. All level 20+ Mantises in the Charr Homelands, on the contrary, are labeled "Mantids."

Characteristics[]

Mantises will usually be found in groups of 2 to 4 wandering the area, but can also spring a trap by suddenly landing from trees or rocks above to surprise the unaware. Mantises in the Echovald Forest are hostile to Plants, Kirin, and Wardens.

In addition, Mantids from the Charr Homelands have an innate ability to come back to life after a short period of time. This is not a bug, see footnote or individual Mantid page for more.

They shoot arrows, at what seems to be a shortbow range.

"This is a trait of the Mantis family, and is intended to make them feel more like big insects- you stomp on them, but they still get up and crawl around :)."
