Leveling up means that a character has compiled enough experience to advance to the next level. Advancing to the next level means acquiring new attribute points, Skill Points and extra health. Characters cannot level up past level 20 in Guild Wars, though they can still acquire more skill points by earning experience.

It is possible to level up while dead. It is also possible for monsters to level up from gaining enough experience to advance to the next level.
