General
Born in: Drascir
Nation: Ascalon
Age: 61
King Adelbern is the old, brave, and sometimes stubborn, king of Ascalon. He was a warrior of great repute during the Guild Wars. He fought many glorious battles for his former guild, Ascalon's Chosen, including the famous Battle of Rin, where legends were made of how he saved Ascalon that day. As king, he is loved by his citizens both for his demeanor and his integrity.
During the Guild Wars, the royal family (which had ruled Ascalon for centuries) was weak. They started to become puppets to the Guilds and almost allowed Ascalon to fall into ruin as a result of the infighting Guilds. Adelbern, supported by the people, rose as a champion to overthrow the corrupt family and bring order to the kingdom.
Even after the Searing, King Adelbern holds that the Ascalon Army and the Wall can hold back the Charr. This is a view that is contested by many among his people. Most prominent among them is his son, Prince Rurik. Rurik believes that Ascalon should strike back at the Charr. There are also others who believe the Charr will overpower the army.
Quests Involved In
Location
Though he is encountered on several occasions, there are no set locations where players can go to to meet him. Presently there are three opporunities to see the king (other than in cutscenes):
- Overlooking the Charr battle behind the wall in pre-Searing Ascalon City. You can only see him from a distance.
- Adventuring in Old Ascalon after the Searing. Players will see a short dialogue at the Krytan camp between Prince Rurik and Ambassador Zain. The next time they visit, they will see a confrontation between the King and the Prince about welcoming the ambassador just outside Ascalon City.
- In the Eastern Frontier, but only if the Last Day Dawns quest is active.
