GuildWiki:Requests for adminship

From GuildWiki

This page is an official policy on GuildWiki.

It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that all users should follow. Please use the talk page to propose changes.

GW:RFA

Requests for adminship (RfA) is the process by which the GuildWiki community selects new administrators from among its active userbase. A user may nominate himself for adminship, or may be nominated by others. This page maintains a dynamic list of current nominations. Please note that a well-supported nomination is not a guarantee for an administrator position—the decision of whether the GuildWiki needs more admins and whether a particular user is well-suited for the role rests with the current administrative team.

To nominate a user, see the instructions at the end of this page.

A system-generated list of current Administrators may be found here. A list with more detailed information about administrators can be found here.

A category containing links to all resolved RfAs may be found here.

[edit] Things to consider when nominating/supporting candidates

  • The user's familiarity with basic MediaWiki functionality.
  • Familiar with GuildWiki policy, both the letter and the spirit.
  • Does the user spend a substantial time on the wiki? While explicit time commitment is not asked from the admins, newly appointed admins are often added because it's felt necessary to have more admin coverage to patrol against vandalism.
  • The user's past track record, especially involving disagreements. Does the user maintain a level of maturity when someone on either side becomes irrationally passionate?
  • For a longer, unofficial list see User:M.mendel/Admin Criteria.

[edit] Active Nominations

[edit] RoseOfKali (talkcontribsedit countRFA page)

For a long time now, RoseOfKali has been one of the most active remaining editors on GuildWiki. Although Rose has occasionally gotten into altercations with other editors in the past, they arise not out of personal feelings but out of an earnest desire for the improvement of the wiki. I am confident that Rose will be able to responsibly use the sysop tools on a regular basis.

As an aside, image work and such might help her spend some of her time in Ukrainian captivity. Image:Felix_Omni_Signature.png 20:24, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
I accept, and I finally have regular access to the internet again. RoseOfKali Image:RoseOfKaliSIG.png 11:02, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] El Nazgir (talkcontribsedit countRFA page)

I first thought about El Nazgir in the role of an admin when I saw him explaining to a new user how to get a page deleted via delete tags, thinking "if he was an admin, he could have done that himself". El Nazgir strikes me as a person who has been active all over the wiki, who has an eye for the wiki community, and who reaches out to other users, while at the same time being affable and pleasant. He definitely does not overestimate himself, possibly the contrary. He has been an admin on UnAnswers, and has been using his admin powers there reluctantly. I believe El Nazgir would not disappoint if made admin now, and I expect he is going to, with time, grow into an excellent, fully rounded administrator. While having been a user since 2007, El Nazgir's period of strong activity started in January of this year, and as such he would be the admin who best represented the most recent generation of editors. --◄mendel► 11:00, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

I accept. I must say, I'm pretty surprised by this though... (and I can't even remember explaining that deletion thing)--TalkpageEl_Nazgir 15:01, October 9, 2009 (UTC)

Discussions, more elaboration on a point, lengthy counter-arguments, etc. should be directed to the talkpage.

Well, he already cleans up after people, and at the end of the day, that's what we want from Administrators - no?
We already have many admins with his qualifications.

  1. Seeing as how unactive I have been here recently, I really do not have experience with El Nazgir to form a solid opinion. However, from what I've seen of him so far, he seems like a well-mannered, mature person. My 3.14159... cents.--Image:Marcopolo47 signature new.jpg (Talk) (Contr.) 01:39, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] JonTheMon (talkcontribsedit countRFA page)

Jon the Mon has been on the wiki longer than I have. His contributions are usually intelligent and well thought out. He has embraced our GW:IRC chat because his day job allows him to be connected to the internet; I assume he is following RC. He has moderated discussions both on IRC and on the wiki. I would think him an excellent addition to the RC patrol admin team, and expect him to extend his moderation skills, whether made an admin or not. JonTheMon is also active on Guild Wars Wiki. ◄mendel► 11:11, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Instructions

To nominate a user for adminship, follow this simple three step plan.

  1. Go to the end of the active nominations section above, and add the following text:
    {{{{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}/Username}}
    Where "Username" is the name of the user you wish to nominate.
  2. Click on the created red link, and add:

    {{subst:rfa1|Username|(insert text here explaining the rationale for the nomination). ~~~~}}
  3. Go to the user's talk page, and add at the top:

    {{subst:rfa2|Username}}

    This will alert the user to his or her nomination.

Note: the nomination itself counts as a "supporting argument", so try to give a detailed nomination summary.
