Can you give examples of what you mean by "comment page sources?" --Sarron 01:26, 16 Jul 2005 (EST)

This is mainly for comments that are difficult to reference on the discussion page and so can be written inline. You probably wont have to do this though. <LordBiro>/<Talk> 03:59, 16 Jul 2005 (EST)
Well, to actually answer the question, when you put text within the comment tags in an article, it doesn't get displayed in the article. However, when someone edits the article they will see the tags and text. (And maybe if someone views the source for the article page, but that wouldn't be the point.) --Fyren 06:30, 16 Jul 2005 (EST)

This is an incredible helpful page that is incredibly badly linked to. --Xeeron 07:02, 31 March 2006 (CST)

Adding Images Edit

The Image section of the help page is vacant. I need help on adding screenshots of the Assassin Exotic armor. Thanks.

I also would like help with adding images. I would like to work on the Canthan collectors, formating and adding maps, but when I go to General collectors (Southern Shiverpeaks) and open the edit screen for any of the sections that include a map to copy the formatting, there is no reference to any image file that I can find. Also, instructions on where to upload images to would be usefull :).

Need assistance uploading image for locationg of Chung, the Attuned. GodOfAtheism 05:21, 11 May 2006 (CDT)

Marking posts Edit

No wonder people don't sign their posts... It's not even in the basic editing guide... we need a section to be put in about adding in a signature. --Jamie Jamie 09:38, 12 July 2006 (CDT)

At least gives me a reason to go trigger happy with the Unsigned template! :D — Rapta Rapta Icon1 (talk|contribs) 22:01, 14 July 2006 (CDT)

Uhm, is there some way to sign your comment? I just realized its not automatic. *EDIT: YAY WHAZOO! I am a pro wikier now. I know how to sign comments!* Xenodius 23:46, 29 September 2006 (CDT)

Font Edit

Is there no way to change font? It's just for my signature. :( --Macros 13:37, 6 August 2006 (CDT)

This should help. <font size="n">text here</font>. where n is a number ranging from 1 to 7. -Gares 14:02, 6 August 2006 (CDT)
Well, I ended up here and it just plain doesn't seem to work with signatures. At least the face part doesn't. Even tried it with the CSS code. (BTW, I'm putting all this in my preferences "Custom Signature" so I just have to hit that nifty button up there...) --Macros 14:13, 6 August 2006 (CDT)
Ugh! Don't use the <font> tag! It's been deprecated for years! Instead, use something like this:
<span style="font: bold verdana;">Text here.</span>
You can include all sorts of stuff in that declaration, as this handy page shows. I request that you don't change the size of the font in your sig, though, as that'll just annoy me when I read talk pages. :) —Tanaric 14:42, 6 August 2006 (CDT)
I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to change the font face (or 'family') on this Wiki. If you take exactly what you said, or the stuff from that website, or from Wikipedia's own website, you get no results. Maybe someone more experienced could figure it out if they want, but I won't be messing with it anymore. --Macros 16:12, 6 August 2006 (CDT)
Well, I had to look on my bookshelf for my XHTML book for dummies :P. I went old school and while Span tag is the best option, Tanaric got the syntax wrong. Here is what I just did with my signature: <span style="color: firebrick; font-size: 12pt; background-color: yellow">Gares</span> and this is what it looks like: Gares
I have colored my name, created a background color, and changed the font size. Also make sure your Raw Signatures box is checked on. If you need to know more about tags, google can be your best friend. -Gares 16:58, 6 August 2006 (CDT)
Hehe, I'm so noob. Remember to check the Raw Signatures box, kiddies! :D --Macros† 08:54, 7 August 2006 (CDT)
<span style="font: bold 100% verdana">My syntax was mostly fine.</span> I didn't realize the font-size part of the shorthand declaration was required. —Tanaric 10:16, 7 August 2006 (CDT)
Remember to keep a link to your user page/talk page in your signature. -- Gem-icon-sm (talk) 14:05, 7 August 2006 (CDT)

possible to define edit sections? Edit

to explain it easily, have a look on my user page. there i have many boxes, and id like to have ONE edit button (top right, where else ;) ) in each box to edit THIS BOX. if i delete the NOEDITSECTION i have too many edit links to too small sections...

so, can please either explain some1 how i might do that, or tell me a link to a 'wiki code reference'? thanks, HJT 08:14, 16 August 2006 (CDT)

You change the smaller headings to large text instead. Try using the <big> tag and bolding with three hyphens '''. -- Gem-icon-sm (talk) 09:57, 16 August 2006 (CDT)
cool, i gonna try that as soon as i have time :) but anyway, is there nowhere a complete reference of all wiki code? i would have needed a guide to tables, this afternoon... something like, uhm... a link on this page will do ;) HJT 15:21, 16 August 2006 (CDT)
This is the editing guide. There is nothing else. You have to learn by looking at things that other have done. -- Gem-icon-sm (talk) 15:44, 16 August 2006 (CDT)
A link to a full wiki markup reference guide would be really useful on this page... I'm struggling with boxes and the like! -- Karalin Fireball (talk|contribs) 03:32, 15 September 2006 (CDT)

How to Redirect Edit

May we add how to create redirects, like for plurals for items:

Putrid Cysts ----redir---> Putrid_Cyst

That would help finding things. Mithran 13:48, 27 September 2006 (CDT)

GW:REDIRECT is a policy saying not to. If you want to argue against it, discuss it on the talk page there. --Fyren 13:58, 27 September 2006 (CDT)

new content is GFDL Edit

I copied over the editing guide from meta (with some minor changes). Their content is under the GFDL, so most of the content of this page is also (as opposed to the normal CC license). Our original page had a comment saying it was from hrwiki.org, which used to be a CC license (seems to have no license displayed now...), but it was likely copied from meta's page anyway. --Fyren 10:15, 30 September 2006 (CDT)

Since I have no idea about this: Should we be concerned about the stuff there having a different licence from the one we normally use on the wiki? --Xeeron 17:03, 30 September 2006 (CDT)
I marked it in the article that the content is GFDL instead of CC, so I don't think so. I'll make the notice more specific. --Fyren 18:11, 30 September 2006 (CDT)

Linking with images Edit

Is it possible to make a link with an image in wikicode? Example: I want to use the Warrior-icon-small on my userpage and make it link to Warrior armor. I have tried to find in multiple help pages, but it's not listed anywhere. — Stylva 05:36, 22 October 2006 (CDT)

It's not possible. The best you can do is redirect the image page, but that doesn't help you. It's a long-standing issue in MW that people argue about on WP because such a feature means you can have an image but no easy/good way to get to that image's page for copyright information. --Fyren 05:41, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Ah, I see. And I guess it's not advisable to upload new versions of those files under new names just to make a new redirect, right? — Stylva 05:48, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
I noticed one user has already done that. I don't know. If everyone does it, it'll be bad. --Fyren 06:39, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Isn't it preferable for users who are using profession icons as sigs to reupload the file under a different name? Because then they can change the icon if they want (and on the other size if the profession icon is modified in size, it could be a problem) and set their own redirect. On a less important note it also doesn't screw up the what links here for the profession icon either that way. --Xasxas256 06:53, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Which user have uploaded those icons again? Maybe he/she is using them they way I would like to and I can use them too.. — Stylva 07:03, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
User:Veldrik. --Fyren 07:44, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Thanks. He uses the icons exactly as I want to in one case, so now that they are there, I can use them too. I wont go ahead and upload any more though, since it's just for a userpage and not an article — Stylva 07:57, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Personally, I think it's preferable to not use images in signatures. What links here for profession icons is going to be pretty useless because of the sheer number of pages without pages because of user signatures. Uploading multiple copies of images uses a relatively large amount of space to only achieve a redirect. If someone wants to edit the image they have to reupload anyway, so I'm not sure what your point with that is. --Fyren 07:44, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Err ok. I never seem to follow you Fyren :( I'll back down, just tell me as people seem to often ask me about sigs; should I stop telling them to reupload an existing image for sig use if it's not being edited? --Xasxas256 08:11, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Well, for the profession icons, it's not an issue. There's too many things already using them. For other images like skill icons, I don't know. --Fyren 08:58, 22 October 2006 (CDT)

Revert war Edit

The revert war going on is unacceptable. Please discuss this on the talk page and come to a comcluison before making further rereverts. -- Gem-icon-sm (talk) 05:10, 17 December 2006 (CST)

Box colors Edit

What are the codes for different colors such as red, blue, green, or yellow?

See Project:Style and formatting/Profession colors. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 17:48, 22 January 2007 (CST)
Isn't it supposed to look something like this - background-color: #f0f0ff;
There are multiple color sets supported by all major web browsers. A three digit hexidecimal code, as shown in that table, works - as will a six digit hexidecimal code. There's even a basic color set that uses test descriptions of colors that will work in web browsers. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 18:08, 22 January 2007 (CST)

Javascript Editors Edit

Does GuildWiki support JavaScript editors such as WikEd? I followed the installation instructions but it appears as if the needed setting ($wgAllowUserJs = true;) covered in This Section are not enabled on the GuildWiki server.--Glamtre 01:21, 7 March 2007 (CST)

  • I shut everything down, tried one last time and after 10+ failures it worked.

Uploading images Edit

I want to upload some images but i cannot figure out how. the editing guid tells you what to do after you upload an image but it doesn't tell you what to do to upload an image.--Banditda 19:44, 16 March 2007 (CDT)

How to upload images in 4 easy steps:
  1. Turn your head 2 degrees to the left
  2. Locate the toolbox (it's right above the fansite emblem)
  3. Click "Upload image"
  4. Fill in the form

;-) (just kidding, took a while before I noticed that link too heh) --Erszebet 06:31, 17 March 2007 (CDT)

oh now that i notice it i'm like duhBanditda 15:35, 17 March 2007 (CDT)

Thanks that helped me too CI 06:27, 19 May 2007 (CDT)

Information about Searching Edit

On the search results page:

"For more information about searching GuildWiki, see Help."

I clicked the Help link in that sentence and was brought to this page. This page is about editing, not searching. Is that a mistake?

continuing a numbered list in the next column Edit

Is there a way to continue a numbered list onto the next column? Kinda like so:

Minipets:
  1. Miniature Temple Guardian
  2. Miniature Whiptail Devourer
  1. Miniature Aatxe
  2. Miniature Fire Imp

Is there a way to make the Aatxe #3 and Imp #4 without typing the numbers manually? (My lists are much longer than that, which is why I want to do two columns). Thanks. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG 18:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

no redlink ? Edit

It may be possible to avoid creating a redlink by using the long form, like this (don't edit that). --◄mendel► 07:58, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Table in a Table Edit

Is there a way to put a table in a table? GunfighterJ 01:06, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

User Boxes Edit

How do u create your own user box? GunfighterJ 01:09, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Simplest is to use Template:Userbox. There is documentation there (including links to more info), but feel free to ask if it is unclear in any way. --◄mendel► 01:46, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
It was easy enough for me to follow, and I don't exactly consider myself a code-monkey (or even a code-fish... perhaps a code-amoeba). ^_^ Jink 01:52, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict with my wife again) We have plenty of examples in Category:Templates/Users that you can look at for inspiration, too. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 01:55, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

PvX Build template Edit

Sorry to post so many times, but is there a way to place a PvX build templates onto your user homepage?

For example this is the critical barrager build template:

<pvxbig> [build prof=assas/range critic=12+1+1 marksm=12][Way of the Master][Critical Eye][Barrage][Distracting Shot@0][Savage Shot][Optional][Optional][Resurrection Signet][/build] </pvxbig> GunfighterJ 03:53, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

No, that relies on custom code that was written for PvX that we don't have. We do have some similar templates, though: {{attributes}} and {{skill bar}} together will produce the same effect. Here is a random page that uses them like that. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 07:41, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
