Is there any way to tell how many times you've flipped over the level 20 counter? As I've noticed some people state their level as lvl 20(+8), how do they know how many times they've flipped the counter? Or are they just keeping a mental note. Do your skill points help in calculating that? I'm an assassin and have 65 skill points out of a total of 77.

item unlocking

Hi all,

I am trying to find out how item unlocking works. Is there an article on this wiki about it because I can't find it. There is a few things I am trying to find out. Skill unlocking seems straight forward acquire a skill in PvE and it is unlocked. But with runes for example it doesn't seem to work this way. I have some superior runes sitting in my vault (and I found; identified and salvaged these myself) but these don't seem to be unlocked (checking at the priest of balthazar). As for item upgrades I see only max upgrades are listed what about lesser upgrade items? Well thats all I guess might start an article about this myself. File:Haiku2k72 leaf bg white tiny.jpg Carnelain 22:05, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Why would you want to use the lesser mod? It's not displayed because using the superior mod is better.--AlariSig 22:09, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
In theory, identifying an item will unlock it. For runes, it's pretty simple, but for item upgrades, you can only purchase 1 or 2 levels of it (not-max and max). However, if you id a non-max upgrade higher than what you've got unlocked now, you'll unlock up to how good the item is. Sorry if that's confusing... it is.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 22:10, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
See Unlock for the page with the details.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 22:12, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
>alari I wanted to see what me current max is. I don't have a pvp char so I tried the priest. >entrea It is not confusing at all it makes perfect sense but at the priest I can't see what my highest unlocked upgrade is. For the runes however I have like three or four superiors sitting in my vault which I didn't buy to store. I'd swear I identified 'em myself but they do not show up as unlocked. There is indeed the possibility I am wrong and I got 'em for free but I don't think it's very likely. Anyway thanks for the quick responses. days in a month

I was wondering how many days there are in a month to determine the age of your character, that way I can find out how many exact days there are until I get my next birthday present.

Hmm that's a very good question, if I had to take a guess I would say 30 but I never really put much thought into that..--AlariSig 02:04, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
You get you're next present precisely 365 days after your last one. I think Guild Wars uses a fairly accurate calendar, probably even including leap days.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 02:12, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't think it counts leap days, because my characters this year have been getting their presents a day early. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 02:14, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Speaking of bdays my war just got her present, only a white but I get a little frog dude to follow me around now.--AlariSig 02:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

So if i have been playing for 23 months, this month being the 23rd, how many approximate days are there until i get a present?

It depends on what day the character was made. --Shadowcrest 02:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) You would basically, need to remember when you created your character to answer that question. I sometimes wish it gave you a day breakdown, because my Ranger has been sitting at 35 months for the longest now. -- Isk8 User:Isk8 (T/C) 02:21, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, why can't they tell you your age, not more-or-less age?Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 02:21, 22 May 2008

Well then hopefully they do that in GW2. Anyways tyvm for your responses, they were very helpful :)

There are, on average, 30.436875 days in a month. Quizzical 04:08, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Gunnar Poundfist

I completed Curse of the Nornbear but I can't locate Gunnar Poundfist in Gunnar's Hold in order to get the Quest Truthseeker. What's going on??

Unless the update somehow made him disappear, he should still be there. I had trouble finding this guy at first, too. He's waaaaay over on the east end of town. I think you have to go over a bridge to get to him. You won't be able to find him by holding ALT and walking around the merchant NPCs unless you head towards the bridge I mentioned.
If you still can't find him, take a look at this. You see the bridge on the south east corner? he should be across it.--franc likes tacos 02:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

HM guide

I was looking through the different guides and was surprised that there isn't a guide to Vanquishing areas. I have been able to complete a few areas, but there are areas I cannot seem to beat no matter what, like Grothmar Wardowns, cannot get the charr groups to fall no matter what. Anyone have any tips on this?

many of the explorable areas have vanquishing tips somewhere in the article. Powersurge360Violencia 03:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
If you think there should be vanquishing guides, the solution is for you to write them. It's likely that the reason why such guides don't exist is that very few have the proper expertise. Unlike missions, there's no reason for a character to vanquish an area more than ones. There's not that much reason to vanquish an area with multiple characters, either. Someone who has vanquished an area only once doesn't have the proper expertise to write a decent guide, and if he did it by cheats like ursan blessing, knows even less about vanquishing the area. Quizzical 03:35, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
The other problem is that most areas have multiple ways in which they can be vanquished, and not that many require a very specific strategy. So even if such guides were written they would be of questionable value. Entropy Sig (T/C) 05:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Grothmar Wardowns is a very hard area to vanquish. Personally, I did it by finishing the mission Against the Charr. That clears all the mobs in the fortress in the middle. The rest is relatively easy, however any EotN Charr group is a formidable foe. They actually have good builds (unlike most mobs), often balanced parties, good teamwork and if one of you dies it can cascade pretty quickly because of their Gloats. If worse comes to worst, buy a full set of EotN Consumables and you can win pretty much anything with little to no effort... — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 06:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm doing such a guide, just for the sake of doing it, but the problem is that is suck at both writing and vanquishing. but then Here it is. Feel free to edit/add areas. --Rotfl Mao 08:57, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Hero & Runes

The other day on guild wiki I found a page on someones user page which listed all their Characters Heros and what Runes/insignies they had on them. Does anyone know which user/page this is? I've tried a few times but I cannot find it. I'd like to borrow this to manage my Runes etc. Ta. HimmTaeguk (T/C) 08:27, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

What are we going to do about the new balance differences between PvE/PvP, in terms of skill articles. Sorry if this has already been asked anywhere, i didnt look very hard--Cobalt6 - (Talk/Contribs) 19:35, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

SLOW MOVING MASTER OF WHISPERS

My Master of Whispers moves his minions slow into the battle and sometimes it takes forever to get them into the fight. Does anyone know why this is happening or what I can do about it? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.101.32.62 (contribs) .

You could potentially set Master of Whispers to "Attack" mode, but be warned that he'll frequent leap ahead and aggro random mobs. The AI really has no idea how to coax minions into battle, so normally the best you can do is flag Master a bit forward so his minions get within range of the enemy more quickly. Felix Omni Signature 05:10, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Also, if you pause your movement for a moment, minion master heroes tend to stop to cast Blood of the Master or to animate another minion... and this tends to be another reason they fall behind. -- Isk8 I~sk8 (T/C) 05:14, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I found that Death Nova was the most common cause of MM lag - BotM not so much. The easiest solution is to just flag the MM along, like Felix said, but you can also force the hero to use an offensive skill (if you have one equipped) or use the "lock" button to lock the MM into attacking your target. Either of those will force the MM to interact with a foe, which will cause the minions to attack. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 05:22, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
My personal preference lies in PSing him and sending him in first... after bonding up the minions with Death Nova a bit :P Oh, and he is always on attack. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 15:15, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I personally let my MM fall behind; if he's far enough behind (normally not far at all), he'll run to keep up, and stop casting spells. I don't mind him showing up to the battle a few seconds late when I do aggro, since I generally keep aggro under control on my own... and once a few melee foes have charged me, the minions are more then happy to mimic their movements. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 22:29, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Bonus weekends

Hi my name is George.. I am wondering a few things about the bonus weekends...

I played Guild Wars thru the triple key and lockpick drop/and bonus point weekend only to get a total of 3 keys on sunday... I ran in eye of north in factions and in prophecies... I used myself 22 lockpicks and of those only retained 2... So i am wondering how me and my account are supposed to be benefiting from this... Granted, i was able to work on my UNLUCKY title track a good bit, but lets be honest here... That was not the way I wanted to spend my 3x drop/and 2x bonus weekend...

Now i have bought all 4 guild wars games for me and my family 4 times ea... My wife, both my boys, and myself only to find that we just are not deserving of these bonus weekends...

Thanks...I really appreciate that... You have showed me that all i have done is for nothing...

This is not an isolated event either... You had a green drop weekend a few months back... My wife and I as well as several members of my guild got 1 green out of all the farming we did... NICE...

Another thing... You have the ability to change, mod, or ban an account... So why prey tell am I, The Leader of a Kurzick Guild getting several mini siege turtles for bday pets... It is as if u are just adding insult to injury now... Though I can sit back and watch some of the rudest, most unappreciative scammers benefit from all that I am not able too...

I really like the game but if there is no bonus for me to play... Why should I??? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.219.151.29 (contribs) .

First off, I would like to say that I feel your pain on this one. My favorite line when it comes to these so called double this and triple that weekends, is 3 times 0 is still 0. I think in my entire career of Lockpicks, I've maybe retained 1 or 2. Lockpick retention is all based on the difficulty of the area, and normal or hard mode, as well as your titles in Lucky and Treasure Hunter. I have I lousy 1 in both titles, increasing my chances, negligibly. Mini pets are all another game of chance. I've got 2 accounts, and an inherited 3rd account, and User:Isk8/Minipets as you can see there, my mini pet record is not much greater than yours. I have 5 siege turtles and 4 hydras.
The various weekend events all give different bonuses to different areas of play. You will see that typically every other weekend is dedicated to some PvP bonus. Just take it with a grain of salt. Anet is not required to give us these weekend events, they choose to. It is an extra addition to a great game. As to your final question as why you should play. Well first off, I hope you play because you enjoy the game, and not because you expect bonus weekends all the time. Its a free online game, which is one of the reasons I still play it. Guild Wars login announcements/Archive lists every login announcement, which the majority is all the past weekend events.
My last point is, that we are merely a Guild Wars Fansite. No Guild Wars employees work for us, so we can only give you advice pertaining to these complaints you have, and not really get you any farther. I would suggest This official wiki page to ask a question pertaining to your aggravation on the subject. I think that is about as far as I can direct you. Don't let something as silly as a lousy weekend event ruin your gameplay experience. It is a great game with mostly great people playing it. Just go out and enjoy yourself. -- Isk8 I~sk8 (T/C) 14:19, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
{ec}I can understand your frustration, but trust me, it happens to alot of people. while it may seem you only see the persons with the coolest items and everything, really they are a minority. your unfortunate hunt for keys is most likely also not an issolated incident. normally keys dont have a very high percentage of dropping. triple that percentage and you still don't get a high number. the same goes for greens. Ow and as a response to your last sentence. I think playing with your wife and kids is a nice bonus :) Lยкץ๒๏ץ talk 14:30, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I had a pretty disappointing key drop w/e too. I've found that every single chest I've opened has always yeilded some useless weapon..but on another note, how are you getting several mini turtles as b/day presents? I wish I could get some, but I've only been playing GW for about 2 months now. Consider yourself very lucky to be playing with the rest of your family.Khukri 14:40, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
You get bday presents for every one of your characters birthdays, 12\24\36 months after character creation. If you want a siege turtle, you can have one lol. -- Isk8 I~sk8 (T/C) 14:41, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I've personally got a small pile of Miniature Jungle Trolls from my b-day presents. :D All a matter of luck, sadly.
Just a note on Isk8's comment; While the official wiki's "Ask A Game Question" page is helpful, it's the exact same as this page; no game mods answer questions there, it's all answered by normal players (such as myself; I'm a semi-regular on that page as well). If you're really worried, I'd suggest contacting [www.guildwars.com/support Support] instead, although they're probably just tell you it's just bad luck.
On that note, a total of three keys? Compared to my normal drop rate for this event, that's three times as many keys as me. Do you often get keys dropping for you on regular (non-event) days? I'd say you're actually fairly lucky in that regard. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 14:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Factions character can't get any quests in Ascalon City

Hi, I have a character from Factions that I've successfully managed to get to Lions Arch. I've done the quests I've found from LA and have taken a "run" to Ascalon and Piken Square but I cannot get any quests/missions from there? Is there a particular quest I need to do so I can start from Ascalon post searing like any other Prophecies character as I'd like to meet some friends who've only got Prophecies and have just started playing GW.Khukri 14:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

As a factions born character, you don't have access to any quests prior to Lions Arch. You can go back and do the missions, but that is about it. You won't get the primary quests, or any secondary quests before Lions Arch. The best suggestion is to party with them, and have them "lead" the way, as they will have the quests. You unfortunately won't get the quests or rewards. -- Isk8 I~sk8 (T/C) 14:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) As a foreign character in Prophecies, you can do all the missions without doing the corresponding quests; a good number of those early quests are for Prophecies-born characters only, so you won't be able to do them. So long as you meet up with your friends, you'll still be able to join up with them and help out on quests, as well as doing the missions.
If you can just ask your friend which quest he's currently doing at any given moment, hop into GuildWiki and look up the quest; the requirements will tell you if it's for Prophecies-characters only, or if you missed another quest. That's the simplest way to go about it. If you can't do the quest, then just help your friend finish it. :D --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 14:38, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

dervish help

is it possible to create a dervish in the prophesies campaign instead of the nightfall campaign well of course after you have purchased nightfall because i really don't wanna have to go through all that questing again.....

Nope, dervishes can only be created in nightfall. --Shadowcrest 23:36, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
However, characters created in other campaigns can effectively skip well over half of Prophecies, if your goal is to complete it. Get a run from Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay, get a run through that, get a desert tour, and then do the missions from there. Felix Omni Signature 23:58, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
OR: Get a run form lions arch to beacons perch, get a run to droks from there, get to thunderhead keep and then the Ring of fire missions and your done.--AlariSig 00:51, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Party Search box help

I'm confused about how the party search box works. Only confused as to who joins who's team as sometimes I'm suddenly the head of a team and other times it's someone else. When you click on a persons name in the Party Search box and select "join" does that mean you're inviting them to your team, or you're joining their team. At first I figured it put them into who had the most ppl in a team was the leader, or who was the higher level but it seems to be different every time. What's the best way to work the party search function so I know whether I'm joining someone elses team or whether they are joining my party. I hope this makes sense.Khukri 12:31, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I think no-one knows for sure. See Talk:Party. mendel 12:47, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I am fairly sure that the person creating the party search is the designated leader. Though it may revolve around the join rule where, whoever has the larger party becomes the leader too. I never really gave it much though myself. I am pretty sure though 1 on 1, every time I've clicked join on someones party invite, they have been the leader. -- Isk8 I~sk8 (T/C) 12:57, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Whoever's party is larger will become the leader, I've never seen a different result there. For equal-sized parties, I'm not sure. --Shadowcrest 19:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

The Join button works like the invite button on the PArty Menu afaik. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 19:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
The Join button on the party search window does not work like the join (+ -- the plus sign button) on the Party Formation window. If you invite someone to your party via the + button they will be in your party and you're the leader, with party formation window it's anybody's guess who joins who. Khukri 13:49, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
