How do you add an article?

How do you add an article? I saw a few areas that have the articles listed, but it doesn't say how to add a new one.

The way I know is this one: type in the exact thing you want in the "go" box. When you get sent to a search page, click on "this exact title". That should take you to the edit page for a blank article with that name, which you can start writing in. Make sure the capitalization and spelling are the way you want them to be (and check the search page just to make sure someone didn't make something similar with a slightly different name), and away you go! The article will be created when you save your changes. --130.58 04:54, 18 March 2006 (CST)
Another easy way is just to make a link with the title you want (e.g. on your user or talk page), then follow it to the empty article. That's quicker if you're doing something massive, probably. --130.58 04:56, 18 March 2006 (CST)

Category: Votes

I noticed, that the Category:Votes includes some archived discussions. Since they are no longer open/active, should I remove them from the category? ~ Nilles (chat) 06:33, 26 June 2006 (CDT)

Yep if a vote has been resolved one or the other, go for it. They do need to be written up in GuildWars Wikia:Old votes however. --Xasxas256 06:35, 26 June 2006 (CDT)

undead prince rurik (hells precipice)

Can anyone give me tips on how to kill undead prince rurik at hells precipice mission and how to kill undead lich? The preceding unsigned comment was added by (contribs) .

There is a pretty good explanation in Hell's Precipice (mission).
The overall strategy using a Pug or hench (yes, it can be done with hench) is this:
  1. Undead Prince Rurik: Lure the Fist of the Titans or Hand of the Titans first and kill them. Using henchmen, use a longbow and start backstepping as soon as you fire. For added security, make sure your Warrior hench have wasted their "Charge!" skills, so they do not go up too far and aggro Rurik and the Spark of the Titans. The backstepping should keep your hench from engaging while still luring the Hands/Fists. After killing them, go for the Spark of the Titans and leave Rurik be. While Rurik can do some damage, the damage the Sparks can inflict will be much more devastating. After they are destroyed, finish off Rurik.
  2. Lich Lord: The explanation under Hell's Precipice (mission) works good for a Pug and also for using hench. The difference that needs to be taken into account is with hench, you will need to pull back from the action to get them to stop attacking him from time to time, until he is on the bloodstone. When he is in place, start attacking him again.
This, combined with the article's walkthrough should help you to complete the mission. Goodluck and if there is anything else, please ask. -Gares 22:07, 16 July 2006 (CDT)

Image Submiting

Can anyone tell me how to submit images to an article of the wiki? For example I make a build and i want to show an screenshot of how it works.I would like to know how you do that.Thanks.Leader of Armys 21:02, 25 August 2006 (CDT)

To put an image in an article use this code: [[Image:name of image.jpg]] That would put the image with the name "name of image.jpg" in the article. Then click on the red link for "name of image.jpg" and that will bring you to an upload page that will allow you to upload the image. Before uploading any images, you might want to check the Image use policy or the Editing guide. Also check out the style and formatting guide for [GuildWars Wikia:Style and formatting/Builds|builds]. --Rainith 21:13, 25 August 2006 (CDT)

Build Utility for New Users and PvE

I have a question and perhaps a suggestion. For what audience is Guild Wiki intended? I ask because, while the site is full of useful information about skill location, weapon types and etc, the build section appears nearly useless for all but very specialized purposes. If Guild Wiki is intended for long time players, and not intended for new adoptors of the game, than there is no problem with this situation. If the site is intended to be helpful to all Guild Wars players, than it seem to me that this is a problem.

And yes, I am a newb, or noob if you prefer, to Guild Wars and newly registered to Guild Wiki. I am, however, a long time gamer (very long time and I won't go into that for fear or revealing my age too much). As such, I can generally adapt to a new game quite quickly. But there are times when I would need some information about common build types and ways of combining skills. None of this information is available in the build section. Instead, it seems as if there are only specialized farming or PvP builds. Occasionally, a build will not be approved because it is too much like a generic class build, but new users will now know what these generic class builds are unless they are included in the build section.

My suggestion is that Guild Wiki include build intended for new users and/or general PvE purposes. This section will be particularly imporant for new users who are attempting to play through the PvE storyline. As it stands, all of the builds include Elite Skills that are not available to users who have not reached that section. Again, this effectively makes the build section useless for them.

I do not mean to sound derisive nor in any way demean the hard work of all of the volunteers who labor over this site, but it seems to me that by definition, a Wike site displays information. When information is not available, than the purpose of that Wiki can be called into question. Who are you working for?

That's all. Flame away and thanks for your attention.

If you want more general info, look at the articles in Category:Profession guides. As for builds, you can just replace the elite with whatever you want in most cases. For more in depth consideration of skill combinations, look at the builds and either see which skills get used together often (or simply used often) and see what the text says about how to use the build. There are 77 builds in [:Category:PvE builds], which doesn't include the ones in the farming, team, or running subcategories. --Fyren 02:07, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
I also find this lack of starter builds a bit odd, but as an older player I haven't really spent any time considering adding them. But there is in a way no need to do this. The skills aquirable in the PvE storyline are very limited (maby not in Factions, but in Prophecies anyway) and everyone should be able to see easily the possible combinations. You can also check the skill articles themselves to see what kind of use they recommend. Although some starter builds should probably be present, it might take some time before anyone will add them. You might ask on the talk page of the Builds article, so a build oriented user might notice it. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 03:33, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
I don't think build articles are aimed at new users, but I don't think we should create "Starter build" articles. I would argue that until you have unlocked a number of skills, including elites, and until you've become familiar with the mechanics and terminology of the game, builds are not for you. In fact, my definition of a build is that it is a combination of any skills in the game in order to perform a certain task. If we create a build that uses only skills from Ascalon then it would probably be useless by the time they got to Kryta.
I know that this is perhaps an "elitist" viewpoint, but I don't have every skill in the game unlocked. I don't play Guild Wars that often, and I would love to try out some of the builds that have been tested, but I can't because I don't have the skills. This doesn't mean I think there should be some intermediate builds for users without all of those skills.
Saying that, I do think that there is a problem here! I think new users should be directed to the Category:Profession guides as Fyren says. These articles explain the benefits of certain professions. There may need to be articles explaining useful skill combinations based on early PvE skills.
Basically I think that builds should play a supportive role on the wiki, not a leading role. In my opinion builds are something for those players that have unlocked a lot of skills and really know what they're doing. If there are no articles that are suitable for new players then they should be created. If there are articles that are suitable for new players then they should be more heavily promoted. <LordBiro>/<Talk> 04:13, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
There is one reason why we lack starter builds: About any build will do! Both Prophecies and Factions are very easy at the first missions, even more so if you read the advise offered here in the newbie/profession guides. The game automatically provides you with a set of skills via the skill quests and these usually form a good enough starter build. By the time you need to adapt your build to compete, you will have enough skill points to play most builds outlined here. --Xeeron 05:29, 26 August 2006 (CDT)

Excellent information here, so thanks. I had in fact read the Profession guide earlier and found them helpful, but lacking. It is clear to me now that the issue may be that I primarily play Factions rather than Prophesies. I've had a Prophesy account for a year or so but never got into it. When Factions came out, I returned to the game and enjoy it much more, possibly because I've never been a fan of general fantasy and the Asian fantasy theme appeals to me more. Thi.s Factions focus on my point may explain my frustration with the build section more

I have to disagree that in the early stages any build will do. Perhaps we need to define more clearly what early stages means. Getting through Nahpui with a bad build can be difficult at best, even with a good team. I find that GW seems indeed to be very very easy, until quite suddenly it becomes impossible without a thorough knowledge of your skills, your teammates skills, and the mission requirements. This is where I think Guild Wiki could be most useful in helping newbies get started with the game.

Thanks for the thoughtful responses, incidentally. I was prepated to be flamed and instead found the responses so far to be insightful and interesting. I appreciate you proving me wrong.

Factions is indeed not very starter friendly. You don't gain skills from skill quests, but you have to buy them from the skill trainers. After you get from the Shing Jea Island to Kaineng Center, the skill trainer there will teach you most if not all skills. The game from there on isn't really meant for beginners anymore. The Factions campaign just has a too short area for the beginners to learn to play. :( But generally after reaching Kaineng Center you will be able to duplicate a lot of the build in the wiki, although some builds really need the elite skill mentioned. However, you can easily make your own variatons of many builds without those elite skills. If you still feel that you want to learn to play better before continuing with the Factions storyline, bring your character to the Prophcies storyline. That way you'll be able to play a little more in the easier areas and even get some skills fro mthe Prophecies skill quests. After that you could return to thhe Factions storyline. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 03:25, 27 August 2006 (CDT)
It is a point that there is nothing in GuildWiki catering for the section of gameplay between pre-searing/Shing Jea and having all skills and elites. In Factions, it's a massive culture shock for new players, and there's little we can help with that, but in Prophecies it's a slow process of gaining new skills and knowledge. A new player is forced to play through each stage with only what they have - and there's currently nothing in GuildWiki to help. For example, I found Ignite Arrows very useful for much of the game, and I only stopped using it as I got Apply Poison and then, of course, Barrage. However, there is not a single build in GuildWiki that uses Ignite Arrows (check the use of the image).
The Profession Guides are completely useless for a new player: for example, the Ranger one has "Types of Rangers"... "Barrage/Pet". I didn't even know Elite skills EXISTED until I got to the Desert, and here's a guide which shows the 'only' ways of playing a profession as with elites.
What might be useful is to change the Profession Guides to show a new player some example builds using only the skills available at each stage during the game (eg: Ascalon, N Shiverpeaks, Kryta, Jungle, etc), which would ease them into the game.
Secondly, a page explaining some basic team concepts, like the roles of the different Professions and some basic strategy, might be useful. -Ellisthion 19:29, 31 August 2006 (CDT)

On Ignite Arrows, since the AoE nerf it is much less effective and unless you don't have Kindle Arrows or want physical damage there isn't much neeed (though Read the Wind is better for physical.. ;P) — Skuld 05:04, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Custom Sig.

Hey, I couldn't find this anywhere else, but it might exist since I didn't look too long. But my question is this: How do you create nice custom sigs like Gem, Rapta, Bishop, and others, witha picture and links? I tried looking at their sigs on talk pages and trying sum stuff out but nothing is woking for me. I always get something like [[Image:WhateverTheImageWas Azroth]]]] or something like that with it all being a link to my user page, but not being an image. So...can anyone help me out here? Thanks a lot.--Azroth 23:10, 25 September 2006 (CDT)

You need to make a page called User:Azroth/Sig and add your sig there. You can look at User:Gem/Sig for example (a complete list of sigs is found here). Then go to your preferences and change Custom Signature to {{subst:User:Azroth/Sig}} and tick the Raw signatures box. That should be it. Then when you add ~~~~ at the end of your comments your new sig will appear. --Xasxas256 23:33, 25 September 2006 (CDT)
Cool, it worked. Now just one more little bit to finish this up. I added the #redirect [[User:Azroth]] tag to the image in my sig, but it won't work. Can anyone tell my why and how to fix it? Thanks again.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 00:39, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

Column question

How do I put a section of a page into a column format like in the builds sections without using a table like on the GuildWars Wikia:Editing guide? Sorry if this is a noob question :)— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 00:11, 5 October 2006 (CDT)

Builds section? You mean Builds? Those colored boxes in columns are accomplished using tables one after another. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 00:14, 5 October 2006 (CDT)
No, i mean like in the untested and tested pages where the names of the builds are in three columns.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 13:35, 5 October 2006 (CDT)
Those pages are catgories. Category pages are like that automatically. If you want columns for a page, you need to use tables, just leave the background color as white. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 13:39, 5 October 2006 (CDT)
ok, thx.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 22:57, 5 October 2006 (CDT)

(next 200) broken?

Hey All, I was wondering if anyone could explain to me whats up with the (next 200) link on the untested builds section? It often doesn't work for me. I heard someone mention it might have to do with IE, which makes sense since i can NEVER get this link to work from work (IE) but it also doesn't work sometimes from my home (Firefox). Is there a browser setting I can adjust? Or some other way I can get to the second page? Its really frustrating when I can't get there. -- BrianG 22:01, 5 October 2006 (CDT)

Too many builds

Well, since this is the "Request assistance" page and I need "assistance" I'll post this here :) FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME!! I'm going through the Untested Category testing and voting on builds, but there are just so many and so few voters. There used to be more, the builds section used to be held in check. But with Rapta taking a break and most people who are concerned about builds voting on policies which don’t get adopted instead of voting on builds, or just watching events unfold from the shadows, We don’t have enough people actually looking at and voting on the builds. It just keeps growing unchecked and there’s nothing the few of us actually looking at the builds themselves can do about it without help. So please, I beg you, HELP ME!! We need Rapta back and Skuld to start voting again, or anyone who has some free time (and if you spend any time here, you have free time) to come and begin testing builds. Because as it stands now, by the time a policy gets adopted (if ever) the untested section will be too big to be sorted. So if you care about builds please lend a hand, I'm begging you.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 19:51, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

Yes there is a way but it involes changing code in the game files which is not accepted by Anet and I don't think the wiki is the right place for that too.—├ Aratak 10:35, 18 October 2006 (CDT)
I think the original author wants two clients because someone told him he can not have multiple accounts, as he states, "considering u can't have 2nd accounts".
Whomever told you that you can not have multiple accounts is mistaken. I, myself, have 4 accounts. To create a new account, you can either buy a new copy at your local game store to obtain an account key, or start Guild Wars and there is an option to buy a new account key which directs you to PlayNC online store. To have multiple accounts, you need multiple email addresses, since only one email address can be tied to one account. It is very simple to create new email addresses from any of the free email services. Hope this helps. — Gares 10:42, 18 October 2006 (CDT)

This is just a thought, but would it be a good idea to have a database of scammers for our users to veiw. A lot of scammers have a few accounts, but would this be a good way to disencourage scammers of the future? 02:00, 25 October 2006 (CDT)

Unfortunately I think a name and shame list would be to easily abused. For instance if a person will happily scam other players I'm sure they will have not issues with repeatedly vandalising pages here on the wiki. --JP 02:06, 25 October 2006 (CDT)
hmm very true. It's just VERY annoying being scammed. And Arena Net certainly don't help very much.
It might be a good way to discourage scammers, but it would also be a good way to get GuildWiki sued if a non-scammer was listed on the page. Wikipedia is paranoid about libel, there's no reason GuildWiki is any less vulnerable. 03:41, 28 November 2006 (CST)

Build Scrutiny

Just wondering, after submitting a build, when voting begins, are you allowed to add votes on your own build?

Votes by the author of the build are not counted. --Xeeron 09:27, 25 October 2006 (CDT)

what happens?

What would happen to a green if you put a mod on it will it still have the same stats?ok like sskia's sword (or how ever you say his name) if i put a sundering 20/20 will i still have the 15%>50 and the health +30? Let me kno my chars name is Zolo The Monk

You cannot put a mod on a green weapon. If you try to do it, the game gives you a messag etelling that you can't do that. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 17:22, 25 October 2006 (CDT)

Changing Account Email

I lost the password to my Guildwiki account, but the email I used to register is no longer active. How can I go about changing the email associated with my account?

If you can log into your account you can change your email address by going to Special:Preferences. If you can't log in (which I guess is the case from your post) then unfortunately there's no way we can change the email address for you. <LordBiro>/<Talk> 15:14, 26 October 2006 (CDT)

Getting voters attention on builds

I have an untested build that has gone through some heavy scrutiny, and has been tried and tested by other players who all recommended it, but since voting started a long time ago no votes have been made. Is there somewhere I can appeal for the build to become a featured untested build, or get attention from people to vote on it? --Getalifebud 05:56, 5 November 2006 (CST)

Currently there is no elaborate process for the featured untested build, it is a "first come, first serve". If the old untested build is either no longer untested OR up for more than 3 days, anyone is free to replace it with another build. --Xeeron 07:18, 5 November 2006 (CST)
Any rules on this really? How can you be sure when a featured untested build is no longer untested, votes/discussion wise, so that it can be replaced, also Is there any way of changing a page name? I am considering changing my builds name, abbreviating it, is it worth the effort? --Getalifebud 11:56, 5 November 2006 (CST)
Use the "Move" tab at the top of the page for changing a page's name. If a build has 3 more votes for tested (or unfavored) than the otehr category then it is vetted/unfavored and moved. Usually it is then replaced same day with another build to be highlighted for voting.--VallenIconwhitesmall Vallen Frostweaver 15:20, 29 November 2006 (CST)

New question! Another to do with categories... I've been thinking of expanding userboxes a lil bit with something like the below (Example 1). But it would be changeable (by default profession colors and not the ones I used and profession name) and have a category page for all the users that have it on their pages so you can see what users may prefer that profession over others. Just an idea but I don't know how or if I am allowed to create a category page and have it link like the others that do with a few simple words (Example 2). Please help.

This user is a Ranger by nature.

Example 1 (using the ranger page picture)

On a similar notice, I was wondering if this could work; I have Nightfall and Prophecies, assume i want a skill from Factions, what if i activate my Factions trial included with Nightfall, take one of my Nightfall chars to Factions, cap an elite skill and go back, will i still have it when the trial ends? --Konzetsu 21:15, 3 April 2007 (CDT)
Obviously, any game company would've thought about that. You can't bring over existing characters to campaigns that are accessible from a trial key. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 21:57, 3 April 2007 (CDT)
Not exactly. Unless this has changed in the last month or so. I took a Prophecies only account and added the Epic Trial key, and took a character from their over to Cantha for the Canthan New Year event. So it is (or at least was at that point) possible to transfer characters over with just a trial key. However, if you do so, any skills capped or purchased would simply disappear from your skill list until a full retail key is added.--Sykoone 22:00, 3 April 2007 (CDT)

Flagging Someone Else's User Subpage for Deletion

The Necromator flagged a page in my user space for deletion. This surprised me, as I put the page in my user space specifically because it's just something I'm working on for my own use and refinement, not as an actual build to be tested. I'm fairly new to Wiki-editing, but I thought the Article Retention policy was to leave User pages alone in almost all circumstances? I made sure not to tag it with any build-related tags, since I absolutely do not want it to show in the Builds section. Any advice here? I reverted the deletion tag already. (I'm actually not sure how he came across the page, since it only shows up if you are searching the user namespace.) — HarshLanguage Qswearing small 00:58, 15 December 2006 (CST)

He shouldn't have tagged it. Removing the tag was fine. --Fyren 01:02, 15 December 2006 (CST)
Thanks Fyren. Upon further investigation, it turns out this is just some abuse directed at me for negative comments about 2 builds! The Necromator is also Jbernstein, or at least is at the same IP. See The Necromator's contribs, and see Barek's comment on [Build_talk:W/any_Cyclone_Destruction|one of the builds in question]. So, perhaps I should ask a different question: What are the criteria for recommending a user be banned for abuse of the wiki? — HarshLanguage Qswearing small 01:10, 15 December 2006 (CST)

Deleting my user talk pages

Hey, is their a possible way to delete my user talk pages because i have this one really bothering me and it opened up a new user talk thing and i jus rlly want to get rid of it OperaDeath By An ArrowOpera 17:11, 24 December 2006 (CST)

If you want to get rid of the "you have new messages" thing, click on the words "new messages" in it or click on "my talk" in the upper right. Also, please put a link to either your user page or talk page in your signature and resize your icon so it's not taller than a line of text. --Fyren 17:57, 24 December 2006 (CST)
I resized the icon to the maximum allowed height (19 pixels), but it doesn't do good to such a small icon. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 18:10, 24 December 2006 (CST)

Small images

Hi, you have some very nice profession images, and I was wondering if I could use them for another GW help site. (I'm talking about the Ritualist-icon-smallElementalist-icon-smallWarrior-icon-smallMonk-icon-small ect icons)

I've been browsing for a answer, and haven't found anything, so I'm going to ask here.

Thanks for answering!

Like everything else (except like two pages), the icons are licensed under the Creative Commons 2.0 sa-by-nc license. You can use them as you like as long as somewhere you say you got the icons from here and don't use them for a commercial site. It might also be nice to say "from GuildWiki, made by LordBiro" rather than just "from GuildWiki." --Fyren 23:02, 24 December 2006 (CST)
Thanks for the info! -Thorton

I would like to know if I am the oldest player in Guild Wars , I am 74 years old , born 11/27/1932

Wow. You just might be. But given that not every player in GW visits this site (esp. the non-English speakers), this isn't a good place to ask. You might want to try asking Anet directly. Maybe they'd be interested in doing an article. I've read of a 62-year-old grandma in GW before. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 09:11, 25 December 2006 (CST)

Happy Wintersday...

Hi everyone! This isn't so much a request for assistance as it is me not knowing where else to ask this where people might see it. Is there anyone who I haven't given a Wintersday Gift to yet who wants one? Up until now I've been giving them to Users who's talk pages I've been watching, but I hit the end of the list (or at least the end of the list of talk pages which have been updated within the past week). So is there anyone else who wants one? Thanks a lot and happy Wintersday :)— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 03:27, 27 December 2006 (CST)

Hero EQ Template - need help

Not sure where I should post this. I have a link to the template on the Hero talk page. Basically, I, along with at least 2 others, think that a Hero EQ template is a good idea. The template is available at User:Queen Schmuck/Hero Inv#Template.

The problem is, it is unwieldy. There is a lot of information needed to keep a record of your heroes' EQ, and with 14 available heroes, the table that holds this information is rather large. Rinse and repeat for every PvE charactor you have.

The question/begging for assistance is, is there a way in Wiki to be able to have a script or something that possibly reads table info from a text page (as in, User:Queen Schmuck/Hero_EQ, and fills in the tables with that information? The other and bigger question is, can you, in Wiki, make it so you can click on a table cell and modify that cell's contents? Queen Schmuck 17:19, 27 December 2006 (CST)

The clickable cells would need a lot of javascript to work, but are probably possible. You could do the whole sytem with templates, so that you could just have a template where you type the text stuff that you have. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 17:31, 27 December 2006 (CST)
The crazy thing is, with PHP and MySQL, this would be relatively simple (as in, for a PHP programmer). Only thing is, it then would be a non-wiki site that hosted it. Makes we wonder... our guild has a web site not doing much anyway... I could munge up a database for hero templates pretty easy. Getting my 2 programming guild members to do something more with it, hum. I think I will bring it up with them. Queen Schmuck 22:52, 27 December 2006 (CST)
Unless you need to access that info from another computer or want someone else to see that info, I can't really see a good reason not to have that as a stand alone application (that is, if you want to go the complex route). If all you want is record the equipment of your heroes, a simple spreadsheet should do the trick, no? --Theeth Assassin-icon-small (talk) 22:58, 27 December 2006 (CST)
True, a spreadsheet would do exactly what needs done. I was just hoping for a solution that others could use also. I just talked with a fellow member, and he said that this shouldn't be a problem in PHP and MySQL. If it works good, I hope to make it so that others can use the template. We're not new to the online game community web page help, as we once developed and ran the AA Tops site for the America's Army game (remainder exists here: [[1]]). Possible options might be looking up a specific hero across all your charactors, searching for a specific weapon, only showing heroes with non-max equipment, etc. I just want to help others by giving back little of what I have gleaned from the GWWiki pages. Gulid wars swichting

Is it possiible to swicht Gulid wars acounts to a diffrent campai n and if so can you explan?

Do you mean, "Can I take my Factions character to Nightfall?" Yes. There are quests in Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan that allow your character to travel to other lands. This requires you to have the traveled to campaign key merged to your current character's account. Check the pages for the above cities for whom to get the quests from.

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to move your character to another account, if that is what you are asking. Nor does there seem to be any way to merge two (or more) existing accounts together. Queen Schmuck 21:43, 29 December 2006 (CST)
If, by "switching", you mean whether you can transfer your account to another campaign without buying another campaign, then no. You have to own the campaigns that you want to play in. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 06:06, 30 December 2006 (CST)

Hey, believe it or not but I'm gonna ask a serious question here *pauses to listens for gasps of alarm*. Does anyone know of a way to defrag the Gw.dat file that doesn't involve downloading a third party program, or a way to download the entire file instead of getting it piece by piece whenever you enter a new area? Thanks in advance.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 00:24, 3 January 2007 (CST)

--I just checked my gw.dat file, and it is 4.5 GB. LOL!--
Do not do the following while GW is running!
Option 1: Easiest way to defrag the file: copy gw.dat to gw.da2, delete gw.dat, rename gw.da2 to gw.dat. This depends on your hard drive being mostly continuously filled.
Option 2: If you want to be more likely to end up with a defragged file: copy gw.dat to gw.da2 and again to gw.da3, then delete gw.dat and gw.da2, and rename gw.da3 to gw.dat.
Option 3: To completely defrag the file (and all others) while using a Windows PC, right-click "My Computer", choose explore, right-click the drive (usually C:), go to "Properties", change to the "Tools" option, then choose the "Defragment Now" button. This will take a long time, so do it before going to sleep or leaving the PC for a few hours. This option also has a very small (like 0.00001%) chance of failing and ruining files on your hard drive. To minimize risks, do not do this option unless you have a battery backup for your PC.
I am terrible about over-explaining stuff to the lowest level, so please do not assume I think you know nothing about a PC, even if it is true.  :P Queen Schmuck 02:30, 3 January 2007 (CST)
ummm...wouldn't right clicking "my computer" going to "manage", and scrolling down to "disk defragmenter" do the same thing? Cause if it does then that method won't defrag the Gw.dat file.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 02:38, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Ummm...never mind. That worked. Strange how one Windows defrag program cant defrag it while another can.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 02:40, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Wow! You were already able to defrag your drive? Both my option 3 and your method run the same MS code, so maybe defrag just needed 2 passes to do the job. As primarily a UNIX user, your method is new to me, so thanks for sharing. Queen Schmuck 03:10, 3 January 2007 (CST)
About the fact to download the entire file, run manually (or change your shortcut) GuildWars with the -image option -> gw.exe -image. This will force the client to download and decompress every file from the game. The client will exit after the update complete and not run the game so don't forget to change back your shortcut. Corsaire Corsaire Signature 02:48, 3 January 2007 (CST)
If the drive is already defragged, and you delete the gw.dat file (might blow up all over, would suggest renaming it), the -update should download an entire gw.dat file. Depending on how ANet structured it, this may also defrag the file internally, so could be the best option. I will be looking into this, as the various small updates possibly do not overwrite old zone information, but relocate the new info at the end of the file and change internal pointers. I might have to break out the hex editor and poke around that file a little. Queen Schmuck 03:10, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Is the general idea here that defragging the gw.dat file will improve performance? Cause my GW seems to be running more and more sluggishly lately. -- BrianG 11:57, 3 January 2007 (CST)
After moving GW.dat to gw-orig.dat, and running "gw.exe -update", the new gw.dat file is substantially smaller. True, some of the missing file size will be information relating to previous events I have downloaded, like the August/September 2006 thing in Cantha, Halloween 2006, and now Wintersday 2006. IMHO, this does not make up for the over 1 GB of difference.
"gw.exe -update" file size pre-test: 4.32 GB
"gw.exe -update" file size post-test: 3.22 GB
I will be "testing" this by playing some today to see if there has been any noticeable speed increases when moving between zones/towns. Queen Schmuck 12:33, 3 January 2007 (CST)
NOTE: Doing the above (re-naming then download entirely new gw.dat file) causes the following to happen:
NA-icon-smallaccount email address at login is forgotten
NA-icon-smallpreference to save email address at login is unchecked
NA-icon-smallgraphics settings are reset to defaults
NA-icon-smallsound settings are reset to defaults
NA-icon-smallcharacter order at selection screen is reset to sort by "None"
The does not appear to affect any options in "General", "Control", or "Interface" (they are assumed to be saved on the ANet servers). So far, I have not seen any noticeable speed increases when changing to new zones. Further "testing" will be required. lol Queen Schmuck 13:01, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Some time ago, the client update where not tagging unused cells for re-use, causing file GW.Dat to grown. This where patched but wrongly unused space can't only be recovered with the -image option.. Corsaire Corsaire Signature 13:48, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Wow, never thought that my question would lead to so many others. I'm still a bit confused as to how to download the rest of the file. Could someone give me a bit more detail as to how to do it and what will happen once i do. I'm particularly interested in whether it will download the rest of the file (the parts i don't have) or the entire file, and whether it will save this over top of the old unused data or just add to it. Thanks again.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 16:14, 3 January 2007 (CST)

I think he/she means that Glint is saying that he/she has not killed all the titans, therefore there should still be a quest or something to do... This is probably a mistake that ANet forgot to patch up. But, Rainith is right. There is no spot where it will flash "You have beat the game!", upload a funny certificate you can print off, and/or have credits scrolling down the screen. These RPGs are open ended, are (sadly) kind of like life, it really doesn't end. If you're bored, start another character, preferrably a different profession, and work your way through the game again (if you don't want to spend money on the campaigns). Farm. Work toward titles. Test out builds. Collect greens. Make builds. And, when you have tonnes of money and nothing to do with it, go questing with a group of newbies, and if there are any of them that you find have good potential and aren't those "i know everything" n00bs, then give them 25k each and watch them smile. Forums link / Censorship

Guru is where the forums navigation link takes you. I have an ethical problem with the amount of censorship that goes on at that forum. Particularly in how they remove any comments (however tasteful or constructive) criticizing their methods (which is in line with government censorship of news media). Forums should be a place for the free sharing of ideas. Obviously there are things that should be censored. Guru goes to far and, and in my opinion is right in line with compromising journalistic integrity. Any of the following suggestions would be an improvement (listed in order of preference):

  • Create a wiki forums page with names/links to forums and an objective review of that forum. List Guru first if the community wants, but do include an objective comment on it's censorship.
  • Link to the official fan site list.
  • Choose a different forum. Of the Guild Wars proclaimed elite forums, Guru sensors too much. GWOnline hides too much information for logged in users. Don't know enough about IGN/Vault. Gameamp is the forum I use most, but it has a more small personal feel that makes it inappropriate to serve as the only forum navigation link.

As a final little comment, let me just say that the objective philosophy of Wiki just seems to contradict the censorship of Guru, therefore making it harmful to Wiki to serve as the only forum the main navigation leads you to.--Mooseyfate 12:20, 1 March 2007 (CST)

The Wiki is for documenting Guild Wars, not reviewing Guild Wars forums. Once you start that, you open a floodgate for people to advertise forums. We already do link to the fansites. See Fansite. The forum at Guru serves as an additional place for people to ask questions Not all forums are places for the "free sharing of ideas". How exactly does censorship on the forum, which doesn't really see much activity, harm the wiki? I doubt people will stop visiting the wiki simply for ethical or philosophical reasons. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 19:55, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Forcing discussion pages to link back to correct project page?

If we have the project page "build:blort", the discussion page is "build talk:blort". Now we archive the discussion page to "build talk:blort/archive1". revoting on unfavored builds

I know a person can take out an unfavored build and put it back in untested for a re-vote, but I'm not sure if it is required to be alterd first or what? Can someone give me inctruction on what exactly to do and how to do it?--TheDrifter 19:12, 30 January 2007 (CST)

I believe you need to have sufficiently modified the build such that it at least attempts to address some of the issues that the voters and others have brought up on the talk page. Then move the previous discussion to an archive talk page and start a fresh rate-a-build with some comments on what was modified from previously. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 19:49, 30 January 2007 (CST)
How do you archive the tlak page? And is it a requirment for it to be changed? ie: If the comments are flawed as the voters do not understand the nature of the build (such as someone votting unfavored on a 55 monk build saying "this build sucks, no one can survive with that little health).--TheDrifter 20:01, 30 January 2007 (CST)
As it's written now - I can't spot an allowance to move a build back into untested except if the build is modified. Personally, I think that's flawed for several reasons (this weekend, for example, large scale skill changes are announced to take place - making a large number of past test results, favored and unfavored both, potentially questionable). But as I can't find a loophole other than build changes, that's what appears to be needed. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 20:12, 30 January 2007 (CST)
Okay, what is the command needed to activate an archive of the talk page?--TheDrifter 20:15, 30 January 2007 (CST)
Move the current talk page to Build:Whatever/Archive1 and place a link to it on the real talk page. --Fyren 20:21, 30 January 2007 (CST)
Well, just by saying that the comments are flawed is not enough to move it back to untested. Since you're attempting to post the build here, the people you have to convince are specifically those commenters and voters. Just like any competition where there are judges. It is those judges that have the final say. If you're looking to refute their comments, try posting your build in other forums to garner more responses and feedback, and maybe post up proof in the form screenshots and videos. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 20:54, 30 January 2007 (CST)

My problem is the opposite. I poured through the stubs and the current untested and tested builds before posting mine in 'untested', beliveing I had enough play time already on my build, and enough success with it to put it into untested and get some feedback. Boy was I in for a surprise. For themost part the respondents were just "Wiki-ing" through, andperhaps one or two had agendas outside of anything resembling a sleight pondering. I'm pretty sure of this as I followed their other contributions throughout GuildWiki. In any even, the result was that my build was railroaded in the span of about 10 minutes to Unviable, with three votes in unfavor, then promptly labelled. You can se the process if you're interested: [Build:E/N Earth Turret]. Boy was I miffed. So here's my question. I'd prefer to not have a re-vote on it if I could just move it to the stubs area. I'd like to clean it up--archive what I think was a bogus vetting round and just settle it itno the stubs. I'd rather get discussion on it by the occaisional passerby than the slapstick that posed as a vetting process. Will anyoone complain if I do that you think? It doesn't seem to be against the rules...--Rafe Alexander 05:42, 14 February 2007 (CST)

The goal of the wiki is to provide information to readers, not to help people improve their builds. The build process is just to filter builds to accomplish that goal (not that I personally have any faith in the process). Build stubs are stubs so they can improve and go into voting, but your build already was in voting. You can leave more comments on the talk page and people who watch recent changes may notice and reply. Unless you change the build substantially, don't move it out of unfavored. --Fyren 07:33, 14 February 2007 (CST)
thanks a lot Fyren, so there's no mistake, I am very satisfied with my build. Witht he way the first process worked for me I was thinking it would probably be deleted really quick too. Now I am beginning to see that may not be the case. Do you think that original authors can delay the vote process for a week at least before someone comes along and puts it up for a vote? Or maybe that could be suggested in the design format for the comments section. Inoticed also that the vetting template wasmessed with also--since it was put in place by a newer user perhaps he used an old or dated template. I suspect a custom template was put into place. Perhaps if and when the author decides he/she wants to call vetting then they can shose from a set of templates that shouldn't be messed with. I have some ideas I'll try to post in the proper area soon. Thanks a ton. --Rafe Alexander 08:52, 14 February 2007 (CST)
If you make a new build and stub it, I don't think someone else will unstub it but I haven't paid enough attention to builds to say for sure. If anyone else adds the voting template while it's a stub, you can just get rid of it, cross it out, or something. If you leave a build stubbed for too long without changing anything, someone will probably notice and flag it for deletion as abandoned. --Fyren 09:21, 14 February 2007 (CST)

some formatting questions...

hey, I was just wondering if the wiki supports html and javascript coding or not. Also wondering if anyone knows how to force two tables to be the same height as another table. Specifically I mean my 2 pets tables equaling the height of my dervishes table. I'm pulling a major update of my userpage so I figured I'd find out what code I'm actually allowed to use. ^_^ — Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 22:27, 30 January 2007 (CST)

Oh yeah, also wondering if there's a page that would display all the pages in my userspace, like a category or something? Just wondering because I might be adding a lot more pages soon.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 22:33, 30 January 2007 (CST)
metawm:Help:Table, metawm:Help:HTML in wikitext. You can put JS in your own User:Whatever/Monobook.js and it'll get included in all pages you view. You can use addOnloadHook() from to run whatever you want on page load. You can't put JS directly into an article. --Fyren 23:19, 30 January 2007 (CST)
To view everything in your own userspace, use these two links: Articles starting with User:Azroth and Articles starting with User_talk:Azroth. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 23:23, 30 January 2007 (CST)
Thanks. Ok so I've got the link I needed, and it stinks I cant code java into my page (wasn't expecting I could anyway), but what about html? Does the site support commands like on-click and scroll?...Oh wait, are those java? Been so long since I coded my last web page I cant remember. :P— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 23:54, 30 January 2007 (CST)

lol, sry ;_;— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 12:44, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Azroth, I thought Abberant was right about the height attribute to solve your pet box problem, but I just tried it by editing and previewing your page and it didn't work (tried 100% for the pet table and 50% for each cell). I know back when I used to do HTML more often, some browsers didn't support height percentages, but I thought they should by now. I am stuck on IE6 at the moment though so maybe thats why it is not working. -- BrianG 13:00, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Actually, I tried the Height thing before posted this topic. I'm on IE7 and it didn't work for me either. It might have been a while since I coded my last web page, but I definitely remembered that. :P Still waiting to hear if onclick and scroll are html or javaScript (there you go biro ;) ) commands. I suspect the later, and even if they are html I don't think they are supported by the wiki. I just wanna be sure.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 14:00, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Hmmm I believe that those commands are javascript, or are at least used for the purpose of running javascript so I don't think they will work, but I'm not certain on that. As for the height thing, thats frustrating that it won't work. Did you only try percentages? Maybe forcing a hard number for the height could allow you to expand it to the right size? -- BrianG 14:50, 31 January 2007 (CST)
I tried all percentages (100% for the main table and 50%/50% split for the two pets), nothing and percentages (nothing for the main table since its height is based off of my dervish, and then 50%/50% split), and hard number and percentages (a real height for the main, and 50%/50% split). None worked. Haven't tried all hard numbers yet, but I think it will end the same way.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 16:12, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Hmph. I feel your frustration. If I can think of any other way to get it to work I'll let you know. -- BrianG 16:38, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Azroth, stick a few <BR>'s in there. It may not make it perfect for you, but it will let you pad you pet's boxes a bit. --Rainith 16:57, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Yeah, that would work. Its the same way I padded the rest of my boxes a while back. Now if I could only get the navbars to work. Built a subpage for my monk with the layout done with navbars, but when I dump the {{User:Azroth/Aeris Restored}} in place of the text in her box on my main page it won't put the bars where I want them. *sigh* Now I remember why I was putting this off for so long.— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 17:11, 31 January 2007 (CST)
And they change width when I click "show". Beautiful. Think I need Kayas help on this one. ;_;— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 17:15, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Most of what people do onclick and onmouseover is javascript not html. There is some that can be done using CSS pseudo classes (color changes and things). For table alignments you might also use the vertical-align property. Also, for reference and tips you might check out which has pretty good guides/references for HTML/XHTML and CSS Lojiin 17:22, 31 January 2007 (CST)
I guess I should've checked back earlier. Regarding the height attribute, you can't specify percentages because there's no such thing as relative height for html. That attribute accepts only absolute values. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 22:58, 31 January 2007 (CST)
Well, better late than never. Thanks a bunch for the info. Guess I'll just pad the cells with extra lines. Lets see...that means that, unless I'm forgetting something, all I need help with now is, whole new template format, lol. Hopefully I can get Kaya to help me out with that. Navbars seem to be more his field of experties. Thanks again everyone for all your help. :D— Azroth sig Azroth Azroth sig2 00:14, 1 February 2007 (CST)

Skill template question

So, skill data is all entered into templates that look something like: {{skill box {{{1|}}} |par1=val1|par2=val2|...}}. Then, they are used like: {{skill_template_name|wang}} which excercises the {{skill box wang|par1=val1|par2=val2|...}}.

However, I would like to grab data out of them myself... say, pulling the desciption fields (say I want to accrue a list of changes (coincedentally, I do)). I'd like to know how to do that. My idea for doing that (admittedly woefully uninformed) is to create a template called {{Skill box data}}, so that when I did: {{Animate Vampiric Horror|data}}, I would get the text "| name = Animate Vampiric Horror | campaign = Factions...". I could then run the results of that substitution into another template that I create, subst the results, and come up with a credible list of information. This would save me from having to do large amounts of copy and paste, simply by creating a single template, and throwing skill names into a subst'ed instance of that new template. Am I thinking about this wrong? Is this something it would be OK to do? Because of the way the skill templates are written, 'Skill box data' would have to exist right along side all the other skill box templates. Thanks for any suggestions and pointers! ~~~~ The preceding unsigned comment was added by Oblio (contribs) .

If you want to describe how skills have changed, that won't help. You can only get the current version using templates through the wiki. Our template data doesn't go back to GW's release, either. The older versions of skills had their data directly in the skill article. If you want, I could give you the complete histories of the templates and articles in MW's XML dump format so you can parse it yourself (assuming you can code). --Fyren 23:08, 1 February 2007 (CST)
Thanks for cleaning up those tags. OK, ya, I agree that creating delta's from the skill attributes won't work well because of the problems with only pulling the current version. Still, am I right about creating a kind of empty skill box template to be able to extract skill data as parameters? Is that a solution begging for a problem? At the time I wanted it, I could have hacked something up using subst to aggregate the data in one place (basicly, a contextualized changelog from the rebalance). Now, I'm not sure how useful it would be or not. I guess it could be used to directly quote a skill description into another area without forcing a link or pulling the whole skill. I guess I still see merit in the idea of a "skill box data" template which simply strips out everything but the parameters, allowing things to be re-templatized through templates that don't exist in the main namespace (think userpages or something). Anyway, I'll request XML data on your user page if I decide I'm ambitious (bored) enough to do the contextualized changes that I was thinking of- thanks! -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 15:48, 6 February 2007 (CST)
You can format/display the any of the parameters as you'd like using a template but you can't really create a changelog out of it. You can only get the current description, for example, so you couldn't show it next to the old one to compare. --Fyren 22:13, 6 February 2007 (CST)
Can you demonstrate how to pull, say, the description of a skill out of a skill template and display it in a a paragraph here? -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 10:45, 7 February 2007 (CST)
You'd make a template with a name like "skill box foo" and it would contain only {{{description}}}. Then you could do {{Flare|foo}}. If you do something like this, it would probably be best to do actually use subst and flag your template for deletion when you're done. You might also run into problems with PHP having a runtime limit of 30s and would want to do skills in small chunks. --Fyren 10:51, 7 February 2007 (CST)
OK, right, but that would have to exist in the global namespace. I was trying to be careful about what I added there. I'll go ahead and add a "skill box data" template as soon as the need arises then. Thanks for your help. -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 11:04, 7 February 2007 (CST)

Slowing Down of GuildWiki

Is it just me, or is GuildWiki slowing down? I'm experiencing similar slowdowns to like when Nightfall came out... If so, why? --Nova 15:37, 6 February 2007 (CST)

Merging Accounts?

Maybe someone here can help me. I have a friend who only had nightfall, and another friend who only had prophecies but didn't play and didn't want it anymore. So I got that copy of Prophecies for my friend with Nightfall. But unfortunately because the accounts have both already been activated separately, it won't let him merge them (which was the whole point). Is there anyway around this? Is Anet so against the reselling of accounts that they would refuse to assist him in merging these? Thanks for any advice you can provide. -- BrianG 09:52, 13 February 2007 (CST)

From official Guild Wars site at
If I do not link my current account with Nightfall and I install Nightfall as a standalone game, can I link them together later?
No. You must make a decision about linking your Guild Wars/Guild Wars Nightfall accounts when you first set up Guild Wars Nightfall. We are not able to link or merge accounts at a later date.
Sorry, the answer would be no. The only way I could see this happen is if you begged and pleaded with ANet to change their mind on a special case basis, but I am not sure this will accomplish what you want. The fact that one key changed hands might actually get that key made unusable (dunno). My suggestion is to use it as a storage mule account. Queen Schmuck 12:06, 13 February 2007 (CST)
Yeah thats what I thought. Thanks for the info. I did find a document on Play-NC somewhere that gave instructions for how to email them and request a merge, in the case that you accidentally chose the wrong option. But considering he has been playing nightfall on its own for quite awhile it probably wouldn't work. Only thing I can think of is if he says that he used to play prophecies, then lost the disk when he moved, and just recently found the disk again. There is no way they can prove he is not the original owner. I really don't understand why they would have a rule like this. Prophecies is old and not really worth buying new for $60. Why does an old copy have to go to waste? -- BrianG 12:23, 13 February 2007 (CST)
It takes extra time to merge two accounts, so they ofcourse don't want to do it. Plus they don't allow reselling accounts so there should be no other use for the function to merge after a mistake which they according to you do. I would suggest e-mailing them and asking if they could merge two accounts for you even if they aren't new. (As a side note, sells prophecies for 30€ and I think that you can get it as cheaply from other places too) --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 16:04, 13 February 2007 (CST)
Thanks for the info Gem. I'm going to tell him to try to contact them and see what happens. Maybe I'll also look around to see what kind of deal I can find. -- BrianG 09:57, 14 February 2007 (CST)

What does [sic] mean? I have seen it in several articles. —Ebany Salmonderiel 16:37, 17 February 2007 (CST)

It is used to indicate a direct quote from dialogue in-game, where the in-game dialoge is incorrect. For example, see Kohjo and Talk:Kohjo. The in-game dialogue contains a grammatical error. The [sic] notation is used to indicate that the author did not make a typo when copying the dialogue, that there is an intentional error in his work because there is an error in the in-game dialogue. -Spiked Eggnog JesuisKrowman Spiked Eggnog 16:42, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Indeed. All righty. It really seemed like there was at least some kind of agreement between whoever owns/maintains this wiki and that wiki. What with the FAQ on the other wiki. From what's posted there, it's almost like this one is gonna shut down eventually, while the other one stays up, since they're essentially the same. That makes sense, since everything can be exactly the same, along with more storage space, less stress on whoever owns this wiki, said person not having to pay for the wiki, etc. Somehow I thought you guys were gonna be a little more outspoken about this...~Avatarian 86 23:51, 31 March 2007 (CDT)

We've already said all that needs to be said about this and more. I believe that eventually, the official wiki will have enough information to start competing against GuildWiki and sooner or later, one will shut down. --Ab.Er.Rant Necromancer-icon-small (msg Aberrant80) 19:24, 2 April 2007 (CDT)
Is there another page where you guys were discussing this? 10 posts on a page most people don't look at doesn't really constitute a thorough discussion, especially with the implications this kind of shift can have. What about a Wiki Build Competition?

A mod or an admin picks two non-primary attributes from two professions (for example, Blood Magic and Smiting Prayers). Goal is to make the best possible Build using theese attributes. Winner gets... fame and glory? :-) Come on, it's an easy idea, just needs a wiki page and everyone can give it a try. The attributes would be kept secret until competition starts, and hopefully be of a more unusual combination seldom seen in builds. --Lexxor 14:10, 21 February 2007 (CST)

Sounds very interesting. One thing I would know instantly is that the submissions for that contest would be very, very... inefficient compared to existing builds, and even the winning builds would probably be sub-par, compared to the existing builds. But I like the idea, perhaps take off the required attributes and just have a category, like spiking builds, etc...? Don't get me wrong, sounds very interesting, but the only thing is that it wouldn't help the Wiki out as a whole. -- Nova NovaSmall -- (contribs) 15:48, 21 February 2007 (CST)

  1. Is my sig ok? It has an internal link that appears external, as it is an edit link ([{{fullurle:User talk:Ebany_Salmonderiel|action=edit&section=new}} Leave me a note]), which appears as Leave me a note
  2. What does __NEWSECTIONLINK__ do, and how does it work?

fixed a couple of mistakes in my question Alert Ebany Salmonderiel (Talk) Leave a note 14:41, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
Ok, if you check your talk page, you will see that by adding the text "new section QS" in the Subject/Headline for the edit, it automatically created a new section called "new section QS". You can also see that adding a note without putting anything in the subject/headline text box creates a note that is simply appended to the end of your talk page. I didn't know this before either, I just found out by playing with it. Queen Schmuck 15:03, 9 April 2007 (CDT)

How do I copy the article history?

I wanna archive a build but I don't know how to copy the article history to meet license requirements.

You can't automatically copy the history without moving an article. --Fyren 00:32, 11 April 2007 (CDT)
And if you move it, the history will be lost from the build article itself. You can just copy the page and credit everyone who has made non-minor changes to the build. --Gem-icon-sm (gem / talk) 06:09, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

How to resize an image? I.E, I want to make an image as my Sig, how do I size it down?

Build Archive

On the GuildWars Wikia:Builds_wipe page it states: "...You must copy the article history into your userspace as well to meet the license requirements!.."

How do you copy the history? I know I can copy the current version by simply going to the edit page and copying everything out and pasting it into a user space.

You would have to copy and paste it yourself from the history tab. You only need the names, but it would be easier to just copy and paste everything. --Fyren 01:05, 16 April 2007 (CDT)
For a copied history... is this acceptable? [[3]] Also... could I have just pasted it at the bottom of this page? [[4]] Thanks, in advance for your help. File:Jkr.jpg Frostty1 22:48, 30 April 2007 (CDT)
It's close enough assuming you copied and pasted every edit. Putting it in pre tags would make it more readable. --Fyren 16:59, 1 May 2007 (CDT)

Skill text

I can no longer see the discriptions of my skills (on the normal skill bar) or of the enchantments/hexes/spirits that are on me. But for some reason I can still read the damage source descriptions.

Any reason why? ~The Confused Player

Go to Options (f11) and under the general tab, make sure "show skill descriptions" is checked.M s4 17:14, 26 April 2007 (CDT)

Your tip was VERY useful. *bows* Thank you! ~The Relieved Player

Data dumps and the builds section

I've already posted on Gravewit's talk page, but I'm putting it here as well as I don't know what timezone Phil is in. Is there any way to make a Data Dump of the builds section as an archive? Alert Ebany Salmonderiel (TCM) 14:54, 29 April 2007 (CDT)

Data dumps have been posted. Enjoy responsibly. :) —Tanaric 14:45, 1 May 2007 (CDT)

Templates and tables

Well i hit a bit of a problem in the template, i need to hide rows depending on if it is flagged to be hidden. I can do something like {{#if: {{{author|}}} | |this is a row | thisdoes not come up as a row }} problem is, | is accept in the if statement as a then/else trigger and i still need to be able to parse that row as a table row and not a raw dump so that it does not just print the |, instead of treating it as a row. Two solutions i can think of is to use another template for each row (icky) or use html instead of the wiki inbuilt | operator. Any thoughts or ideas? -- Xeon 12:48, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

I think {{!}} take care of this.—├ Aratak 12:50, 3 May 2007 (CDT)
tried that, it just raw dumped it and didnt parse the | table operator. -- Xeon 12:52, 3 May 2007 (CDT)
I know it work with #switch and I think I used it with #if. See Template:Armor art gallery. I'll checkit out. I have something in my sandbox with #if.—├ Aratak 13:02, 3 May 2007 (CDT)
Ah cheats, you used {{!}}, thank you for that help. -- Xeon 13:05, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

How do I place automated footnotes? The Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag. and </nowiki> keywords, but these don't appear to work here? Other keywords, or is there another build-in method? Amy Awien 18:26, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Where would you ever need' to use footnotes? I don't know of any place on GuildWiki where we reference outside materials, at least not Guild Wars related stuff. Entropy Sig (T/C) 20:56, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

do you need a credit card number?

i've been wondering if you need a credit card number or if you dont need one if you're just playing the normal game.

I have not used a creditcard number and I think I play a normal game. So, I think you don't need one. Amy Awien 23:03, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Weapons Gallery?

I would like to suggest a weapon gallery like there is an armor gallery on this wiki. It would be very nice to compare, for example, all axes or swords next to each other, rather than clicking them individually all the time. Lefthander75 01:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I second the motion on this one well as a list of the Skins of the weapons. If someone does not know all the skins how can you find them on Wiki? User:Lady Rah 19:26 EST January 8, 2008(UTC)
I believe that a few users already have such pages set up in their personal sandboxes, as I have seen something like that before. While you can find every skin by looking at the weapon articles (Axe for example) and checking the tables, it is true that if you only know what they look like and not what they are are in trouble. Hmm. Not a bad idea. Entropy Sig (T/C) 20:56, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
If anyone knows of a good place where all weapons and shield skins are shown next to each other (with names, obviously) I would much appreciate a link on my talk page or here. Thanks in advance. Lefthander75 15:59, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

what do you need to have to make a 55 monk?

the title asks the question, what do you need to have to make a 55 monk? like, what items and armor do you need to have to make a 55 monk?

Typically, a 55 Monk uses the Cities of Ascalon Grim Cesta reward item, plus a superior monk rune in all 5 slots of armor. (1 rune will be a duplicate) This in total brings you down to 55 HP. Any max armor will do. Aggro Isk8 Sk8 04:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hero Skill Trainer

Hello, I want to know why we cant have a hero skill trainer in our guild halls

It may have something to do with the fact that all hero skill trainers offer different skills and different points in the game. They are not like regular skill trainers that "almost always" offer the same base skills as you move through the game, and just add on newer skills. Its not like the skill trainer we have in our guild halls is anything special either, seeing as how they only offer core skills. Aggro Isk8 Sk8 21:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
