The Ghost-in-the-Box was an item available during the Halloween special events. It is traded by several Halloween collectors in several cities in Elona and Tyria. In addition, the item is handed out as a random prize for players who obeyed the Mad King when he appeared at Lion's Arch and Kamadan.
It causes a small ghost, something like a miniature Wraith to appear in front of you with a slightly startling noise and the word "Boo!" above its head, stay for a brief time, then disappear in a puff of smoke with another yell.
When the Ghost that was once in the box disappears, it's 'death' counts as a Necromancer's Soul Reaping death, and any nearby Necromancers with rank in Soul Reaping will gain back energy. Contrary to popular belief, it does not trigger "I Will Avenge You!" after the ghost disappears, nor does it take or hold aggro. It also doesn't trigger a ranger's traps if the ghost lands near or on one.
[edit] Notes
- This item gives 1 point for the Party Animal title.
[edit] Trivia
- On November 30, 2006 there was a bug affecting the Ghost-in-the-Box ghosts. The bug caused the ghosts not to die after a few seconds as they normally do. Players took advantage of this and spammed the Chantry of Secrets with ghosts while waiting for the Domain of Anguish to unveil. ArenaNet patched it somewhat quickly, however Chantry of Secrets among many other towns throughout all three chapters enjoyed the 'Ghost Party' for a few hours. (Ghost Glitch Screenshot)
