In Guild Wars, a character usually refers to a player's in-game avatar which the player guides through the game. Each game account offers the ability to create up to 4 characters while having 1 campaign and up to 2 additional character slots for each additional campaign.
There are also many NPC characters in the game. These characters are controlled by the game rather than human players.
