40/40

From GuildWiki

A 40/40 weapon set uses a wand and a focus, with two modifiers for each: 20% chance of Half Casting Time and 20% chance of Half Skill Recharge of Spells. Due to the available upgrades in the game, 40/40 sets can only be used to benefit a single attribute.

Technically, the sets provide these bonuses for a single attribute:

  • 32% chance of HCT,
  • 4% chance of quartering casting time
  • 36% chance§ of HSR

[edit] Set components

A 40/40 set consists of a wand and a focus with the same base attribute:

Alternatively, various Collectors and Weaponsmiths offer uninscribable and/or non-upgradeable weapons that provide the equivalent benefits.

[edit] Notes

  • § Skill recharge times cannot be reduced lower than 50% (see the Historical note below).
  • 40/40 benefits only apply to spells, not skills in general. Therefore, they are generally only valuable when using builds with at least 4 spells from the same attribute or to increase the number of potential castings of 1–2 critical spells.
  • Veterans consistently use the technically incorrect, 40/40 terminology, although 32(4)/36 or even 36/36 would be more accurate.
  • On average, use of a 40/40 set will reduce (for relevant spells) casting times by 19% and recharge times by 18%. By comparison, a 20/20 set provides only a 10% average reduction.
Historical note: The July 13, 2006 update placed a cap on skill recharge reduction modifiers, effectively removing "quarter recharge time" effects from the game.
